Hi all, Does anyone know if and how i can take my hard drive out of my PS2 and access ISO's from my computer and how id go about it?

Im guessing id take the cover off my computer and plug it into unused plugs inside the PC. Should I plug the PS2 hdd into the plugs my PCs hard drive uses? I get the feeling im gonna put it in my computer and its going to ask me to format it and I dont wanna do that because I will have to copy all my games back onto the hdd.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Yeah you need USB extreme to transfer files from your PS2 to your hard drive: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/237380

ok this is what I have done so far I have opened up my PC and have found that there is a power supply circuit with two plugs one is plugged into my PC hard drive and one is vacant, and there are two hard drive plugs one is vacant. I have tried plugging my PS2 hard drive into these vacant plugs and it says on my computer screen "New hardware detected, Disk Drive." How do i access the content of my PS2 hdd? I have looked in My Computer and there are no new drives present and if i go to C: drive i can only see whats on my PC hard drive.

Okay strike what I said to do before. USB extreme is for using the slimline PS2 to access games from an External HD. I don't what the hell you're doing, but that's not the correct way. I believe this is the correct way. Hook up your PS2 to your HD and run it as a slave. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/245656 I think you can connect your PS2 to your PC HD and run it that way, but I'm not positive. LuckGhost is more familar with the HD advance/loader, than I am, he may be able to help you.

After hooking up your PS2 HDD to your PC, download WinHIIP or HDLdump. Those 2 programs can detect the PS2 formatted HDD, the PC cannot. Oh yeah, you can transfer ISO's back and forth from it too.

I found steps the other day on the HDAvanced web that will allow one to connect the PS2 to the PC using a cat 5 cross-over cable. I am not sure about HDA ver2, but I have the newest version HSA 3.0. and have transfered from PC to PS2.
Here is a shortened version of what I found:
Transferring .ISO file from computer to PS2 HDD:
* Download the HDAdvance Dump program.(http://www.hdadvance.com/hda_srv.zip)
* Connect PS2 to computer via cross-over cat 5 cable.
* 'Press and hold' any key on JoyPad1 and then boot HDAdvance 3.0 on PS2. HDAdvance Server mode will be launched automatically.
* follow the steps below to assign a IP address to your computer so as to make the connection between PS2 and Computer successful.

1) Click "Start" --> "Control Panel" --> "Network Connections"
2) Right Click "Local Area Networks" --> "Properties"
3) Double Click "Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)"
4) Click the "Use the following IP address" option
5) In the IP Address text box, please type: 192.168.1.111
6) In the Subnet Mask text box, please type: 255.255.255.0
7) Leave the Default Gateway blank
8) Click "OK" to confirm the setting.
Launch the HDAdvance Dump program:
1) Leave "Networking server, at" set to 192.168.1.110
2) Click the "Attach" button to connect to the PS2
3) If the connection works, "Disk Space" will show the HDD volume and free space
4) In the section, Operation" on the PS2, choose "Install games" to the PS2.
5) To transfer DVD-9 (yes, HDa3 works with DVD-9 now!), select "ISO file" under the Source section, and browse to the ISO file to be transfered. Select "DVD-ROM" in the drop-down box.
6) If you do not have an ISO file, "Optical drive" will let you convert DVD/CD games from the computer's DVD-ROM/CD-Rom directly. Just select the Type from the drop-down list.
7.) After you locate the ISO file, you will see information in the "Game" section. Here you can rename the game file in the "Name" box, but don't change anything in the "Startup" box.
8.) Click the "Install" button to start the trasfer.

I don't think you can patch it while it's still on the PS2 HDD. I know that if you transfer your ISO to your computer via CAT5/internal, then you can patch the image and transfer it back.

Also, we need more information. What game are you wanting to patch? Is it for DNAS?

Dunno generally when you install new hardware, you do so while the computer is off so plug and play will function correctly. When it detected new hardware in a USB port, especially if your weren't using Winhiip so it could Identify and format your PS2 HD, then Windows probably just shut down as a safety precaution.

Dude your way off lol. As of now, there is no way to go online with a backup on the HDD. And you HAVE to have your DNAS patched to play a game online.
