Hello,

I recently downloaded a video file in .avi format - it came with the .srt file with the english subtitles. I then spent the day converting it the .avi file to MPEG2 dvd compliant then authored the dvd (all done with TMPGEnc) and essentially thought that all i had to do was to put the .srt file into the VIDEO_TS and burn it with the dvd writing tool that comes with TMPGEnc.

I've just played the dvd onto the standalone player and the subtitles are not coming up....

I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me if this was the right approach to it and/or tell me where i went wrong.

Thanks in advance for any replies....

Do you still have that AVI file?

FilmMachine

If not, use

DVDLab PRO

or
Ulead DVD MovieFactory

hello nrautava,

yes, i still have the .AVI file type, i welcome all suggestions but im currenly in the process of encoding the .AVI file with the subtitles added onto the .AVI file (i deleted the previous mpeg2 file but like i said i would still welcome your suggestions just in case something goes terribly wrong with the mpeg2 format - then i can maybe try adding the subtitles on the mpeg2 file as a last resort) so im going to let the encoder finish and then once that is done im going to author it then burn it onto a DVD+RW, it should work (emphasis on should) because i used the TMPGEnc to preview what it'll look like and the subtitles came up...

So, give me a couple of days and i'll have a verdict...

I forget to say that you can also "burn" the subtitles into the AVI file using Virtualdub(MOD) + VobSub + DivX and XviD codecs

But it would be better if you just convert AVI to DVD with subtitles using FilmMachine or other program like it.

yeah, i used VobSub to permenantly add the subs onto the video file, after changing the name of the sub file to the same name as the video file then used Windows Media Player to check whether they had been added or not..it had been added so i went ahead to encode the file...

And it worked so thanks everyone for the help regardless.
