I'm having issues playing back a video that a friend encoded on a MAC into a ".Mov" file. When played in Quicktime or new iTunes, the audio plays but there is no video. I've tried Quicktime-Alternative with no luck, and tried installing some of the components from the quicktime website. A website pointed me to a program called "SUPER ©" (http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=818) to re-encode the video as an AVI. In doing this I can preview the file and the video plays fine. I don't really want to re-encode the ".mov" to a ".avi" as this will reduce the quality of the video and take time as there are 6 of these videos.

Is there a program like G-Spot which can tell me what codec has been used to encode the file?

Are there any standard codecs that I could download that might help?

Anyone got any ideos short of re-encoding the videos?

Thanks,
Simon
