I'm not sure the controllers are backward compatible. I know that not all Psone peripherals are compatible with the PS2, like the multitap. The same may hold true for PS2 peripherals on the PSone. If the PS2 controllers worked with your Psone before, obviously that's a different story.

Yeah probably just out of luck then. PS2 controllers aren't that expensive around $25 or so.

Then it's probably just not working. It is certainly NOT advisable to take your Psone apart and try to fix it yourself. It's likely you'll just destroy it in the process. Just play your PSone games on your PS2. The compatibility issues are usually minor.

Well if you have a reasonably powerful computer, then you could play them on emulator. Here's a link: http://ngemu.com/psx/index.php ePSXe and PSXeven are the two best in my oppinion. You'll need the PSX bios to play them. Search google for Playstation bios or PSX bios.

No. No PSX modchip is compatible with the PS2. You would have to order a PS2 modchip. The best are the DMS 4 Pro and Matrix Infinity. A cheap but reliable solution is the Duo2SE. You can find more about modchips here: http://teammodders.com/ps2_mc.php?ex=2 If you can't order stuff online and you can't play your games on an unmodded PS2, then your only options are to fix your PSX, play your burned games on emulator, get Breaker Pro, a modchip, or Gameshark Lite. That's it.

No. The simplest Solution is that it is just old and broke down. If you want to send it to a professional to fix it, then check out teammodders.com. They are excellent and can help you out.

i used to have problems with my controler ports for my ps1 and dreamcast. my cat would chew through my controler cables and short out the ports. at the time, i would go out, rent the system in question, and swap out the parts. might be harder to do now since ps1 is an older system. the controler ports are a detachable component, you unskrew 2 skrews, detach a ribbon, and volala!
