I am fairly new to the world of dvd burning but have had mostly successes at burning dvds. I have used a a variety of brands for burning including Memorex, Sony and TDK. Many people say that Taiyo Yuden is the best. I have not tried them but would like to. They don't seem to be available in my local area so I would have to order over the Internet. I would like to know if they really are better and why. If some knowledgable folks who read this site and have used Taiyo Yuden discs and have an opinion on burning software with them, I would certainly appreciate it, including if anyone has had a bad experience with using them. Thank you.

Taiyo yuden are some of the highest rated media about, memorex is the absolute lowest! Verbatim plus life are good also. I use traxdata +RW (4X) (original manufacturer is Ricoh) I have only had 1 bad disc out of 200. You have to find the media that suits your system & stick to it.
Have a wander over to the media section of this forum & have a browse. You should find lots of threads answering your question.
Here is a small segment from one of the guides here about media, courtesy of a link by ScubaBud;
"Buying at the store (Best Buy, Office Depot, Wal-Mart etc.)
Fuji film ? Manufactured by Taiyo Yuden, MCC, Ricoh Japan, Prodisc, Fuji Film all fairly good manufacturers
Maxell ? Manufactured by Maxwell, Ritek, RicohJapan, Taiyo Yuden
TDK ? Manufactured by TDK, Ritek, RicohJapan, Maxwell, MCC, CMC Beware of the CMC brand
Verbatim ? MCC, CMC, TY, RicohJapan, Ritek again beware of CMC which it seems Verbatim is using more frequently lately.
Note: A good rule of thumb when purchasing your media in the store is to look for ?made in Japan or Singapore? stay away from ?made in Taiwan or Hong Kong? When buying online always try and get ?Branded? media this way you can be sure you are getting the genuine article. There is an exception to that rule and it would be Taiyo Yuden disks. You just need to buy from a reputable dealer when buying online. Here are a few I have bought from with good experience. Of course it isn?t going to be the same for everyone.
Supermediastore.com ? Rated number 1 just about anywhere you look.
Rima.com ? Fast and cheap good service
Mertline.com ? Quality media "
Kind regards,
Pulsar

I would recommend going to manufactor website and go with the brand they recommend, what the manufactor has tested is what the firmware is built on. Second personally I have had very good results with Tiyo Yuden, Verbatum, and Maxell. You can test your burns with something like Nero speed test (Disk Quality Tests). Most people will recommend burning at 4X this is generally true, but depending on your burner you may be able to burn faster than 4X as long as it test out good. I run Sony DRU710A burn on verbatum +R 8X(MCC003) at 6X quality test at 6X look just as good as 4X for me you can see the errors starting to really go up burning at 12X and up.
Good Luck

Where are you located?
Here in the USA, staples and bestbuy are some great sources for taiyo yudens. Fuji 8x,in both formats,and sony 1x-8x in the plus format have many tys in them.Look on those wrappers for made in Japan. I'm not sure what format you prefef,but I gobble those japanese fuji and sony +8x that code as Yuden000-T02.
30 cents apiece on staples last fuji sale!
Overall on both my benq 1620s: They'll burn anything I throw at them. Usually those yudens,riteks,verbatim MCC-003,Ricohjpn,and hitachi made maxells.All these MIDs perform identically on my benqs. Even cmags burn ok,but some of my stand alones do have a lot harder time playing those dreaded cmags.
No bad experiences yet on my tys.I dropped a spindle the other day and put some nasty gouges in 1 blank disc.OOPS!
HP a1118x-b/athlon 64-3300+/BenQ 1650 BCDC/LG 8163B/Modded Wii/Epson-R300 and Ty Watershields!!!

I only used authentic Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (Made In Japan). Genuine Yuden media can be found on the Fuji & Sony 8X DVD+R Made In Japan.

@ gurnard, hiya, how are ya doin'?
That quote from my text is actually from Scubabuds' link. Not my words!
Scubas' text is all within the quotation marks (i.e. " ")
I have made his text bold, to stop any confusion. Along with my goodbyes!! LOL! I am not sure how to do all this stuff. I got my picture of Bender in my sig by more good luck than management! Along with help from a few of the chaps here! I get confused very easily!
I have used Ritek, but found that my Traxdata discs & delivery service is very reliable; this is where I get them from;
http://www.dvd-and-media.com/dvd+rw-media.htm
I like to stick to what I know!
They come in a couple of days from Belfast. I think that you are in Hull, am I correct? They work out at 62p per disc delivered. They suit my purposes very well
