I use Smartripper, DVD2One, then nero to make backups. I noticed the sound seems to be "low" I need to turn up the volume real high to understand what the movies are saying. When I choose the audio options in DVD2one I usally check both the 6 channel and 2-3 channel.

Anyone elese notice this problem? Any suggestions?

Also, is there a guide for making DVD backups using a dual layer DVDR. I have not yet purchased one but would like info on this matter.

Thank you in advance!

I can't help you with SmartRipper or DVD2One.

In DVD Shrink,I only use AC3 5.1CH English sound stream only. Look for that stream on your programs.

Dual Layer backups: I use DVD Decrypter and it is free. It has a couple of functions. For compressed DVD-9 to DVD-5 you have to use Mode File, then compress with DVD Shrink. For a 1:1 copy for DVD-5 to DVD-5 or DVD-9 to DVD-9,you use the Mode ISO.

Mode ISO is very easy for dual layers.
Simply open up DVD Decrypter, click Mode/ISO read to hard drive.
Note where that file is going and click hard drive-burn icon.
Then click Mode/ISO write- click on small foler icon/locate that mds file/click open/and click the harddrive-burn icon.

With all the trouble with Nero on the layer break, and nero7 is suppose to take care of that issue but has some bugs to be worked out, DVD Decrypter in ISO mode is the way to go. Very good quality dual layer backups.

When it's time to order a new dl burner, find a good quality drive. I just ordered another benq at newegg.com for $38 including shipping in a special offer this weekend. The model# is 1640 and has some great features. Plextor/lite-on/lg and some sony are other great dual layer drives that also support booktyping.

Here's some great guides you may want to bookmark for future reference:
