Maxell DVD-R 5 Pack MIJ Very Dissapointed!

Just got what I thought was a 5 pack of Maxell MIJ DVD-Rs from London Drugs (Canada).
Get home, tried all of them in DVDInfo and guess what, all turned out to be Ritek G05s!
Needless to say they'll be returned to LD tomorrow!
Anyone else had this happen to them?

You're lucky that they're not CMC Mag crapola ... Eitek is the best made in Taiwan Maxell discs you can get .. If you don't want Ritek Maxell discs, you need to look by the bar code and get the ones that have 'made in Japan' printed on them ... Otherwise, you;ll get either Ritek (good) or CMC Mag (ugh!)

That is odd. I've never seen any Maxell "Made In Japan" code out as Ritek before. Are you positively sure it's not Made In Taiwan?
So far all of my Maxells DVD+R "Made In Japan" are code out Maxell-XXX-XXX.

That's what I'm thinking .. I know that lately the Maxell discs that I've seen at Wally Mart and Office Depot all seem to have MIT stickers covering MIJ printing ... It used to be printed on the wrapper

sounds like the Maxell marketing team is becoming somewhat "shady" nowadays :) placing "stickers" over actual wrapper to indicate place of origin? hmm....could be difficult in the future to "second guess" which ones you are going to receive when you get it home~ :)
btw, RitekG05s are NOT bad media, they are made in taiwan as catfreak stated and i will AGREE with him 100% in that they are THE BEST MADE IN TAIWAN that Maxells' offer~ :)
yes, while you MAY prefer Maxell's own coded ones, RitekG05s are good quality media, in YOUR eyes/setup they may not be, but MANY other users use them with good success, myself included. :)

Are you positive sure? Because my nephew said he just picked up 2 spindles/packs from Wal-Mart "M.I.J" printed on the wrapper, and it code out as "Maxell002."

I just picked up two pkgs this week of the Maxell colored at the WallyMart, stickered MIJ and they are Maxell 002.

What speed?
Japanese Maxells:
-4x yellowtops: Mxl-rg02
-4x yellowtops: Ty-g02
+4x: Never seen japanese in this speed
-8x Goldtops: Mxl-rg03
+8x full hub printable and regular: Maxell-002-00
I also have noticed how the maxells at staples and office depot will have stickers over Made in Japan on that shrink wrapper.Maybe they forgot to place that sticker on kyliefan1 spindle or maybe it fell off? Those stickers aren't on very good,usually half pealed off.
All the small 3 and 5 packs in the dash 4x speed have been Mxl-rg02. But reports of cmags on the taiwanese small packs and also on the 8x gold tops in the 50 packs in canada! These reports turned me off of the dash format on maxells so I don't refer them to many peeps.

I think that Maxell's gotten cheap with the labeling of their discs .. Like Saugmon said, stickers half off etc.. My experiences with Maxell has been great regarding the +R discs and I also would not recommend their -R media .. The worst pack of +R Maxell discs I ever purchased was 4x Ricohjpn discs which my old Ricoh MP5240A writer just plain loves!

Iv'e burned 100 Maxell's in the last month. 50 MIT's and 50 MIJ's.
The MIJ's coded Maxell 002's and the MIT's were Rg03's. Not a single coaster from any of them.
Great media.

I'm not sure if it's Maxell or the people who's responsible for the wrapper and labels fault, but there must be a misplaced somewhere down the line.
However, Maxell is still a high quality media (from my opinion and perspective) and that's all I care for.
