Hi Can any one tell me why I should not use Princo 4x discs in my LG burner? I only mainly use them for my kids to watch as their handling of my origianals is not the best. I would be unlucky to get one to two failures from a 50 pack. They playback as good as my Verbatim Data Life I use for myself.

Personally I think if they are only for the kids then what the heck. But for anything else I would'nt waste my time. I've only used a few Princo in my time but ALL had playback issues in less than a year. Not sure what your paying for Princos but better quality discs can be had for around 30 to 35 cents a disk.

You can get the Office Depot branded Riteks for $29.99 this week .. That's my favorite for putting stuff for the grandkids on ...

Princo really is that bad .. and if you get several coasters out of each 50 pack, they're not as good a deal after all

To me 2 failures every 50 disc seems a little high. I've backed up 100 disc(Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 8x) and no fails yet. And think long term. In a year maybe 2(?) you'll have to reback up.

I've heard of them, but I've never used them before. The best way is to go with the usual recommendation list, such as genuine Taiyo Yuden, verbatim and Maxell (Made In Japan). Or if you want to go local, then get the FUJI or SONY DVD+R (Made In Japan) - they're authentic Yuden media as well.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Many thanks for your replies But being from Australia I do not have access to the Taiyo disc prices as you do in the States. When I mentioned failure rates I did say I would be unlucky to get 2 failures out of a pack, this would apply to Verbatim and Ritek discs. Princo discs in Australia cost 50 cents each, Verbatim are 85 cents, Ritek are 70 cents and if I was feeling rich I could probably buy Taiyo for $1.50 each. I do think my kids would kill the Princo before the Princo self destruct.

hi ozi,

well, since you are in Aus., guess you have no real "choice" but what they offer at local stores/online for the prices that are "set" down under~ :)

i know it must be frustrating that you see some of the other members here posting up these great deals here in the U.S. on media like every week, while it's so difficult to find a good variety of media down in Australia :(

well, basically, i've used Princos in the past and they were VERY poor quality media, one of the worst i've used actually; however, given your situation, unless you can spare the extra $$ involved in purchasing the more expensive discs/better quality discs, the Princos should suffice for your backup needs as you stated they are used ONLY by your kids :) as per "your backups", i would suggest continuing to use your Verbatims or Riteks, as the quality is DEFINITELY much better~ :) but, if these "princo" backups are knowingly going to be "mishandled" or used often by your kids, then, sometimes you need to compromise and save yourself some $$~

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Hi Kivory666
Yes it is the pits not having the selection & price of the states, but that's not my only problem LG4120B [A117] is very fussy on what I feed it. likes the 4x Princo's,Ritek8x[code fujifilm03] & Verbatim 8x All printable. & It seems to have a problem with Ritek G05's & I can no longer get the Fujifilm03's
So it's 50x princo's @ $25 & 50x Verbs @ $42 And that's it.

That sounds like a lot of money to this Yankee until I realize that an Australian dollar is worth about .75 in the USofA .. So, if those are non-sale everyday prices, they're no stickin' ya too bad for media ...

Do you know why they're so expensive? I mean 50 Verbs for $42 is pretty expensive no matter what the exchange rate is. I would think that it would be cheaper since Japan is closer to Austalia than the US (isn't it???).

After the exchane rate is factored in, they're 50 for $31.50USD which isn't any worse than non-sale prices here in the USofA
