Ps2 Cannot Read a Certain Memory Card

Heya, my cousin recently bought a memory card that cannot seem to be recognized by his ps2.

He went to EB Games [ the place he bought it from, and they said it works fine ]
But i tried it on my ps2 and it doesn't work on both slots.

I have my own memory card, and it works on both slots

is there a reason for this?
are our ps2's too old or something? i have a v4, and my cousin's is an old one since the beginning i believe, he got it with the Gran Turismo 3 bundle.

is there anything we can do to make it work?
like cleaning it or something? if so how?

Man I hate EB games. They are jerks. Anyways, is it a Datel memory card or an official Sony Playstation 2 memory card (in the yellow package and all)?

oh man sorrie guys, yeh it's an official 8mb card, but after i cleaned the connectors or watever with rubbing alcohol and a q-tip, everything worked out.

although it still can't read it sometimes.
