I have just purchased a dvd burner and want to start burning. I have soooo many programs on my computer I dont know what is what anymore.

I was trying to follow the guides provided here but Im still running into problems.

I have ripped Sin City and used DVD Shrink on it. It asks if I want to save in ISO format.

What is that.

Ive already saved this movie on my hard drive and created a file called: Video_TS & Audio_TS. (using DVD shrink)
It says Im within my size limit at the top of DVD Shirnk but I still think the file might be too big.

How do I get it to burn Directly from DVD Shirnk with NERO. I have the box checked off under the preferences tab. (Any time I open Nero and import files FROM Video_TS I get error messages).

ISO is an image file that you can burn to DVD. Which has the DVD VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS in the ISO file. So when you use Shrink it is easier to have it make an ISO file instead of the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files. If you do have it make an ISO file then all you have to do is start your Nero start smart and choose the option to burn IMAGE file and choose the ISO file and it will burn to disc.

Or if you have DVD Decrypter you can use MODE/ISO/WRITE to burn the ISO Image file.

Alrighty,

http://www.experts-exchange.com/Storage/Q_20707634.html this will explain what an ISO file is. Scroll down about 1/4 of the way.

If the bar at the top is all green then it will fit on a blank 4.7G dvd disc

Hit "backup" then under "Select Backup Target" click on your burner. Gotta have Nero installed

Thanks guys, Hopefully everything will work for me now!

While I'm asking questions, How can I get an AVI file burnt as well?

I've followed the AVI to DVD guide but I end up with no sound and a file too large for DVD-R.

I converted the AVI to DVD format using TMPGEnc (30 day trial).

Ok, Ok, Ok, I'm starting to think things through in my head here......once converted with TMPGEnc do I use DVD Shrink to bring the size down? But again, what's up with the sound?

Try encode the avis with another program (e.g. VSO DivxToDVD), then burn with e.g. Nero:

Good luck!

If you have Nero Ultra you could bring the AVI file into Nero Vision Express and make a DVD-Video and inport the AVI file in and convert it that way. If the AVI file is to large it will warn you and ask if you want Nero to compress it down to the correct size. So it pretty much does all your steps for you. Converting and compressing to fit a DVD5 disc.

scf_au, I tried your suggestion with VSO DivXtoDVD and it DID convert but it won't play on my DVD player. It works great on my parents cheap dvd player but not my JVC. Do you know of any other similar programs that might allow it to work on mine.

I've played burnt DVD disks on my JVC player before so I know it WILL work, it's just picky on whick ones it wants to play I guess.

@irish80ca

If your burner will allow it, try having Nero booktype your media (if you are using +R) to DVD-ROM. This should fool you JVC into playing it.

What does "Booktype" mean?

I'm using DVD-R disc (if this makes a difference). I've only had my burner about a week and the guys at futureshop and bestbuy said I should use DVD-R since my DVD player is about 2 years old and might not play DVD+R.

I've managed to make a copy of a DVD-9 movie (just the movie, no menu or extras) so far but most of my Hard Drive movies are in AVI format which I've downloaded.

Right now I'm trying a program called Cucusoft AVI to DVD which I found while surfing Google.ca. Anyone know anything about this program? It's telling me 9hrs. to convert.

@irish80ca

Booktyping are for DVD+R disc. Which you can booktype them as DVD-ROM disc for better compatibility. So if your using DVD-R disc then you cant booktype it. As for Cucusoft I have never used the program I use Nero Vision express to convert my AVI files to DVD.

If VSO has done its job, and the discs can be played on an ordinary dvd player, then that part is settled. Perhaps JVC is picky by itself. You may of course try use another burning program, or new media to see if that helps.

Good luck!
