Greetings, first time posting here.
I downloaded DVDShrink a few months ago and its worked great for me up until a few days ago. I've made backups of over 100 movies so far. However, the last few times I've tried to burn movies I keep getting errors while the movie is being burned to DVD. Previously I was using Teon DVDs, but when I ran out of those I bought some Memorex 8x -R DVDs. I had burned about 30 movies so far using the Memorex DVDs I bought the last few weeks with no problems, but suddenly the last 4-5 movies I've tried to make backup of have failed during the burn process.
The only thing I see in the error log that indicates a problem is where it states that the "Medium in drive: unknown", and yet these Memorex DVDs were burning just fine up until a couple of days ago. So even though the log indicates that the problem might be the discs I'm using, it seems odd that I was able to burn so many movies using these same discs prior to getting this error.
Here is the error log:

Hve you updated your firmware lately? Check your drive using the link in my sig.
Now to the Memosux issue. Get some better media. This stuff is crap. I'd bet that this is the problem. Memosux provides inconsistant media on a constant basis. If kivory666 see this, you will hear about it.
Get some TY's, Maxells, Sony's, Verbatims. Much better sucess rate.

Yes, my firmware is up to date.
As far as the Memorex discs I'm using, I understand that they aren't very good, but as I stated I burned about 30 consecutive movies using them with no errors, and now every time I try to burn a movie the burn process fails. So to me, its not a matter of getting a good "success rate", as my success rate previously was 100% and which has now gone to 0%. To me, that seems to more likely indicate something else besides the media that I'm using.

Do you have Roxio on your computer. If you do remove the drag to disc module as it causes massive problems w/ burning DVD's

Having previously had successes with cheap media is no indication they're not the cause of the problem.
Their "quality control" is often not as good as other more expensive media, and you can easily end-up with a bad disc or even a bad batch of discs.

In Device Manager, Primary and Secondary IDE/ATA controllers are listed but there is nothing listed underneath those. Are you saying to uninstall the Primary and Secondary controllers themselves, as there are no devices listed underneath them to uninstall? I'm running Windows 2000 if that helps.

I don't have Roxio on my computer, however I did install a MP3 player to my machine about two weeks ago which has a "drag and drop" feature as part of its software. The software is "MusicMatch Jukebox", and now that I've thought it over, it seems that my DVD burning problems started at about the same time I installed this program. Any knowledge of whether this program causes the same problems as the Roxio program you mentioned?
I appreciate your timely reply to my error log, and thanks again for any new imput you might have.

@JohnStark hi :)
in addition to what has been said above.
the burn speed is a tad high. the faster you burn the higher the chances of errors, i would suggest 4x max, and with those cmc 2.4x.
if you feel the new programme may be the problem , uninstall it and try again. if all is back to normal ok, if not you can always reinstall

You are getting a media error apparently after the first "Not Ready" error the process begain and some data was written. Can you see the burned area on the DVD that failed?:
Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
This is generally cured by using some better quality media. As stated earlier, just because the first few worked, it does not mean that the rest will.
Please notice that the burned failed after your burner tried for almost 25 minutes to complete a burn at 8X which usually takes less than 8 minutes.
Quote: Last address to be written: 1874271
EndDAO: Last written address was 1185279
It looks like your burner wrote about 2/3 of the files before getting stuck on a bad section of the blank.
You should have been able to hear your burner struggling with this.

JohnStark,
It has been years since I have used W-2000 but if I remember correctly the 2 HD's should be on the Primary IDE Channel and the 2 cd-dvdroms should be listed under the Secondary IDE Channel.
In the next one the burner was not ready as the command was sent but the computer just did not comply. It did eventually though. It could be that the cable is loose or there is a possible short as it corrected itself later.
If the MusicMatch Jukebox program has a drag and drop I would dump the program as the program might be trying to access the DVD drive . You can uninstall the Drag and Drop feature in Roxio and in Nero so I would check that out first

Hey guys, I forgot to get back to this thread. I bought new media (Verbatim) and it cleared up my problem completely. Its amazing that other dvds are of such poor quality that half a stack of them are simply duds.
Thanks for the advice on the Verbatim discs, and for everyone taking the time to reply.
Merry Christmas!
