They should both work well for you. Probably Ty's for the Fuji and MCC for the Verbatim. Both first class.

That I don't really like that list because not all those on there are on the same level as far as quality goes. But what you have is good.

@niceum

both those you listed are very good...the first is MCC003 (i use MANY of these all flawless)
secondly, your fujis are gonna be the YUDEN000T02 coded ones, naturally one of the best Taiyo Yuden media you can buy~

your choice is just based on preferences of what YOUR setup likes and does not like...what burner you using?

bottom line...Verbatim 8x DVD+R made in taiwan = MCC003 (very good stuff)
Fuji 8x DVD+R made in japan= YUDEN000T02 (one of the very best if not THE best)

choices, choices, choices...lol...at least u can't go wrong with either~ :)

just stay away from Memorex, HP, Philips, TDK, and other "store brand" media, with the exception of Office depot which are Ritek manufactured, and are good quality too~ :)

Though you answered my specific question (thanks), the only problem with the list posted is - for example: my Verbates 8x are, according to the list, Verbatim DVD+R 8x (MCC.....003) or something.
WHere is the key to these "MCC 003?"
There's a list, but no key to what DVDs are what.
MCC 003 makes no sense to me.
Obviously MCC 003 either equals GOOD, BAD...
You know?
Thanks

lol

well, i tend to abbreviate when i post up media ID coding on here~ i do it so often every day that it's easier to "condense" them to a "readable" form~ :)

MCC003 = manufactured by a company called Mitsubishi Chemicals Corp., the "003" is the correct "coded number" to signify that they are 8x DVD+R media, made by aforementioned company :)

the MCC004 = once again manufactured by MCC (Mitsubishi Chemicals Corp.) but the "004" signifies that they are the 16x DVD+R rated media~

MCC002= same company manufactured it, MCC, but the "002" equates to them being the 4x speed in the DVD+R format~ :)

this key "list" you speak of is entirely in MY HEAD, i am so familiar with all the media ID codings at this point i can USUALLY tell you the rated speed and format upon queue~ :) and usually under what brand carries them and naturally, the manufacturer of said media~

this process takes a little while to learn, but, stick around here in the dvd media forums and read through the various threads, it all becomes 2nd nature to you with enough "practice" hehe~ :)

MCC in this case, as per your question, is GOOD~ :)

let me know if there are any other media you would like a "key/media ID code" to prior to purchasing, if i don't get it RIGHT ON THE MONEY (meaning successfully verify a particular media ID w/ a particular brand/rated speed) it's because THEN you have to add into the equation whether they are "made in japan" or "made in taiwan", the manufacturers VARY greatly between the country of origin on media~ so, SOMETIMES, it's a "luck-of-the-draw" when purchasing media, you go out there looking for a particular kind w/ a particular media ID because you've read it's "good"; however, with company's changing manufacturers so frequently, you MIGHT NOT ALWAYS get what you wanted...it IS somewhat like a guessing game, just depends if you feel lucky that day :)

lol. i was even having to delve into my own Nero logs recently as one of my LG 4167B won't burn the Verb TY at 8x (i had decided to try 8x), it's doing 4x on the Verb TY and 8x on the older Verb -R 8x (can't remember the MID codes, they're the Indian Verbs). no more luck by chucking the 4167B in USB2 enclosure. However the 4163B is burning up a storm at 8x on both types of Verb and that's also in USB2 enclosure. why o why do we have such annoying hobbies!, having to look into my own Nero logs, what's the world coming to :)

Nero said, "let there be Creaky...." and there was light, Nero saw it was good, guess ya going back to what Nero created for your OWN purposes now, this is silly~ :) but hey, if ANYONE can decipher a Nero log, even if it's your own, is YOU~ :)

p.s. sorry to take this thread into a spin niceum, but, if you need any more help w/ MID (media ID codings) and who to associate them with (company/manufacturer) let me know~ :)

and btw, the 8x Verbs are MCC02RG20 creaky~ i am assuming the TY Verbs you have are coding out with TYG02?? or am i completely wrong?

@niceum - the exact Media codes escape me (without googling anyway) but i've used oodles of Verbatim datalifeplus, from Taiwan, Singapore and India. mainly 8x discs, most of those have been -R but i've used a lot of +R too. Lately all i really buy are the new Verbatim TY discs, coded TYG02, they're made in Japan... - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/229523

What do you think of the "Value Disc"?
Yes, the brand name is VALUE DISC. They are 4x +'s.
I bought them cheap at Office Max and they are JUNK - tried X-copy a year ago, haven't touched them since.
I also got some HPs cheap at Shopko. THey suck too.
Both made in Taiwan. What a waste of money.

@gear79 - lmao - we all get very intimate when it comes to good/bad media LOL.

i may be able to offer some help on those Fuji. whilst i've never used any myself, nor the Ritek R03, my fave supplier has recently started doing Fuji, and you can't guarantee which you'll get, R03 or Yuden's -

ADVINFO: RITEK R03/YUDEN000T02

SVP Price: £5.99 / Euro 8.79 inc VAT.
Equivalent Retail Price Per Disc: 24p
- if you lot say the R03's are a good disc i'll seriously consider buying a boatload of these. was gonna buy another freighter's worth of TYG02 but i guess i could try out a load of the Fuji's maybe....

OK -- I opened the fujis -- put them in DVD identifier -- and they came up YUDEN000.

SHrunk one of my DVDs (dvd shrink 3.2), burned it with dvd decrypt -- it plays in my Sony DVP-NS325 just OK. Livable, but not what I want.

About every 15-20 minutes it chops, stops for 2-5 seconds and then skips 10 seconds ahead.

My burner is a sony (don't feel like digging out the box)

The only DVDs I have gotten to work lately are these Verbs DVD+RWs DVD IDed to RICOHJPN (someone told me they are REAL GOOD).

Those work great (never a problem and if so, REBURN - there RWs!) in my DVD, but not in my XBOX (I don't really care).

ANyway, do I need to slow down my burner to 2x..set the shrink to a lot lower setting (it's at 4364 MBs) or do the Fujis just skip?

Thanks for your help.

try doing a CRC check. download dvdinfo.com (free) from www.dvdinfopro.com and use it to check for corruption on that disc. of there are any bad blocks it helps pinpoint the root cause. if the disc comes up with no errors, there's probably not an actual problem with the disc.

another program to try is vso inspector - see here for details - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/246863. let us know how you get on....it's always worth finding the root cause...otherwise the real problem may yet bite you on the bum with those rewritables...

This may be worth noting as well ... I burn by shrinking first (making an ISO), then using Decrypt to burn.
I don't know if that's how it's usually done, but that's worked for me.
This has happened to two burns now, by the way (don't think it's the individual disc).
It's weird b/c they work great with the Verb DVD+RWs.

i use a Sony burner for my YUDEN000T02s as well, and i happen to burn them @8x~ :) but, that's not my point...i THINK that there might be an issue with your stand alone dvd player, have you cleaned the laser/lens recently? might not be a bad idea to do so based on the problems you have been having
Quote:
About every 15-20 minutes it chops, stops for 2-5 seconds and then skips 10 seconds ahead.
while there COULD be some "tinkering" you can do with your burn process, sometimes you may have perfectly good media but your standalone is giving you playback issues...after running the CRC check, the media issue SHOULD be laid to rest, the results will be THERE to show you if in fact, the media is the problem or not~ :)

so i can assume you are burning @4x? i wouldn't burn lower than that to be honest with you, especially NOT on TY 8x rated media, from my experience w/ Taiyo Yuden, the scans on burns LOWER than 4x have proven to be quite poor...the SLOWEST i EVER burn on TY media now is 4x...but, on these 8x DVD+R media, i usually burn @8x, not saying YOU should, but it works very well for me and MY setup` :)

good luck...
