I use DVD Shrink 3.2 along with Nero 6.3.1.18. I have been happily producing dvds with this combination for about six months. From time to time, I also use DVD Decryptor. Recently, I bought a new stack of DVDs, TDK DVD +R. I had been previously using Office Depot DVD +R with nop roblems. Now, when I use the TDK, I get the following error log. Please excuse me if this error is identical to other posts, but I was unsure where to look in my error log to check if it matched similar posts. I assume my problem is my media, as this has only popped up since I started using these discs, and it happens every time I use a TDK disc. If this is my problem, are TDK discs unreliable?

Here's the error log. Thanks for the help.

Here's some suggestions:
Quote:
Nero version: 6.3.1.18
Update to the latest version: 6.6.0.16
Quote:
TOSHIBA CD/DVDW SD-R5372>Version: TU53
The latest firmware for your drive is TU56. Here's a link:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1971
Now to your main problem:
Quote:
Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC MAG & SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND
ECK! CMC is probably the worst media out there. It sucks! Switch to the good stuff like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim DataLifePlus.

Try slowing down to 4x.
You can the Nero update, firmware update and slow the burn speed down to see if you can get these discs to burn. But even if you do they will more than likely have playback problems and will degrade sooner or later.
Media can make all the difference. Plus most brands use different manufacturers - some good some bad. TDK uses some decent ones but unfortunately you didn't get the good ones. Try running one of those Office Depot discs thru Nero Toolkit and post back the manufacturer id - you may have gotten a good manufacturer w/ those but it's not always guarenteed.

Hey, you guys are great. Thank you for all the great feedback!

I have had no problems to this point with my cheap Office Depot DVDs and burning at 8X. No playback issues, nothing. Tonight, I went out and bought the exact same Office Depot DVD I had used before. I burned 1 DVD, no Problem, the second DVD, I got the same error I received with the TDK. Here is a question to answer: How is it I could go six months with no problems whatsoever, and then all of a sudden I get disc error?. My computer hasn't changed. No new drives, no new RAM, no change of operating system.

I will try to burn at 4X and see if my problem is solved that way. But I still wonder...? Something has to be leading to this problem. I will definitely update Nero and my DVD driver. I will also reinstall DVD Shrink.

yep aD memebers are great:)
Your Office depot media is made by different manufacturers. So one spindle could be a good one - the next hit or miss. Run a burned office depot disc and one of the new ones thru Nero Toolkit and post back the manufacturer id.

Very good advice from binkie7 and 9mmruger1. Your second batch of office depot media is probably made by an el crapo manufacturer like cmc mag or princo. That is why it is better to stay with good quality brands that only make their own media or buy from good manufacturers like verbatum, taiyo yuden, maxell, sony or fuji (made in japan). Brands like memorex, hp, phillips, and retail store brands buy their media from the lowest bidder and it is usually garbage. Although memorex and hp do not make any of their own media, phillips does make some of it's own and if you are lucky enough to get genuine phillips made media it is good stuff but you are gambling since most is made by cmc mag.

You can also use this free proggy to ID your media http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

I am confident that slowing the burn down will help tremendously. Give that a try and post back the results.

Saugmon, a member at this forum swears by office depot media. I am not sure what type though. Search the threads in the DVD+R media forum and I am sure that you will find it.

Cheers
