Action Replay Swap Disc with SlimPs2?

Hi,

I just bought Action Replay Max ps2 cheat disc, and wanted to try the swap disc method. I put a match in the buttons that detect if the slimline disc tray is shut, but when I press Start to start the game without codes as suggested the disc is still turning,
I tried pushing down on the disc to slow it down then inserting the burned game and although it accepted the disc, I get a 'Please Insert Playstation One or Playstation Two Game disc' bios message from the ps2.(Not ar-max)

Is there any method I can use with action reply max disc(Not cartridge based) to boot cd-r games?
I read that pstwo games need to be patched to work. Is this correct?
