Hello again,
I have been using TDK+R 8x blank media for a year or two now and for most of the time I have very few troubles. However, I would love to hear back from the people here just which blank media they consider to be the least problematic so that I can try them and hopefully fix the problem that I have been having which is copying from a disc that I ripped, shrank and burned.
Thanks in advance,
Doug.

Here is an excellent thread to read: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/155431
You will find at this forum that TY's, verbatims, maxell, sony, fugi are considered good - memorex, tdk, phillips and the like are not.
Download DVDinfopro from http://www.filepedia.com so that you can id your sonys and copy and paste it back so that we can see who actually manufactured them.

Hi,
well, I always had heard that TDK's were one of the better form of media but I guess I'll have to try another brand. Would you therefore please tell me what you think to be the best of the bunch so that I can order a pack and try them out. I really do appreciate this.
All the best,
Doug.

Not a good sign. I use MADE IN JAPAN SONY and FUJI +R's. Made by Taiyo Yuden.
TDK is usually recognized as garbage (CMC MAG). If you are lucky you can re-rip with DVD Decrypter and re-burn to quality media. I picked up a couple TDK spindles when I was starting out (before I saw the TY light) and they were CMC MAG mfg'd. Used them up but not for anything I cared about.....give aways/loners I didn't expect to get back/kids cartoons/etc.

TDK SUCK~! end of my thought~ :)
hi doorpro,
i would suggest using the Taiyo Yudens, argueably the BEST media out there right now~ :)
locally, as the others have mentioned, the Taiyo Yudens or TYs (for short) are found in the Fuji and Sony 8x dvd+r flavors but make SURE you look for the "made in japan" on the wrappers, ALL Taiyo Yuden media are manufactured in JAPAN, if it's not, then i can tell you RIGHT NOW they are not REAL/AUTHENTIC TYs :)
good luck~
@akyllonen i guess i was shining my TY flashlight a little to brightly into your eyes huh? LOL sorry, didn't mean to blind ya~ :) i'm glad you chose to "follow the light" though, wise decision~
TY TY TY TY

Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Hi Kivory666,
thats what I like, someone who gets straight to the point...lol. I have heeded you and all the others in here and have ordered the Sony (Made in Japan) discs and am seriously considering trashing the 80 TDK's that I have left, perhaps i'll have a party and invite 80 friends and give them all a coaster.....
Once again, I thank all of you for your input, yes even Kivory and the "TDK suck"......
Thanks again,
Doug.

anytime Doug,
i do what i can...but, for those TDK, rather than just trashing them...you could burn some DATA discs using them, it should be just fine...i just don't PERSONALLY recommend TDK to ANYONE that asks, but that is also a PERSONAL opinion of them, i despise TDK like no other...bad experiences for me on all my computers...
they SHOULD hold up for data discs, just not very good for video, the TDKs i have tried in the past pixellate/freeze/are very choppy during playback, all of the ones my FRIENDS have given me with video on them do the same thing...hence, my suggestion against TDK~ :)
halloween is coming up, when kids come for trick or treating to your house, give them each a TDK disc and say "Happy Halloween from TDK" that would be "classic" to see the look on the kids faces when you give them a blank dvd~ LOL

@doorpro, you definitely will not regret using TYs, whether they be Sony DVD+R Made in Japan, Fuji DVD+R Made in Japan, or straight up Taiyo Yuden branded, (Not as easy to find as the latter) Be careful buying Sony DVD+R media, as they have the AccuCore media that could either be Made in Taiwan OR Japan. They both Burn well, but the ONLY TYs are the Sony Made in Japan DVD+R 8x media. They run sales on these babies about 2 x a Month at Best Buy.Look at the label near the bar code. If it says Made in Japan. You're set! The Fuji DVD+R 8X media Made in Japan are also TYs. The Doc is right, use TYs. You can't go wrong with them!
Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.
