I bought a dual layer DVD burner and it came with Nero bundled suite. I believe it is version 6.6.0.16. I tried it on the DVD The Mummy returns.

First I used the latest DVDDecrypter using file mode and I got the files on the hard disk. Even double click on them and Nero showtime played it.

Next step is to burn the files into a DVD. I have a blank DVD-9 and burned was okay. I put it in my home DVD and it will not play. I tried it on the DVD of my IBM laptop and it will not play. It will only play if I put it in the Memory DVD dual layer burner I used.

Any help will be greatly appreciated...thanks

Make sure your firmware is up to date on your burner. Dual layer media is newer media so some players may not recognize it.
Another way to burn would be w/ decrypter in ISO mode. Rip in ISO mode then pick the .mds file and burn w/ decrypter.

What brand and model is your burner? As binkie7 stated, the firmware needs to be up to date. E.g., the NEC 3540 comes with fw 1.01 but it will not burn Ritek DL media well unless upgraded to fm 1.01. Also very few DL disks will play in standalones unless booktyped during burning as DVD-ROM. Download and use DVD Identifier to see whether the burned DL disk is booktyped as DVD-ROM.

There are several Memorex 16X incarnations. Some are NEC oem, some are Lite-On. We need the exact name of the burner with model number.

Here's a page of Memorex firmwares.

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=20

Your burner should be one of the last four on the page. You need to check the firmware your burner currently has with the firmwares listed on the page. If yours is out of date, then flash the newer firmware to your burner to bring it up to date. This is especially important for burning DL media.

What brand of DL (DVD9) media are you attempting to burn?

Gwendolin...thanks but it is not an issue of NTSC or PAL as the source and destination players are all US.

The model number is Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2. The firmware is JSW5. I saw that the latest is JSW6. Any major difference? Is it worth upgrading it? By the way, how do I flash it?

thanks

The Memorex DL media is usually manfactured by Ritek and these are likely Ritek D01 DL media. They should work with the latest firmware but are problematic compared to Verbatim DL media. And yes, one small revision in firmware often makes a big difference.

Your burner is a rebadged Lite-On 1673.

Go here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?category=4&manufactor=20

Go to the 4th one up from the bottom which matches your drive.
Click on JWS6
Save to your desktop when it downloads or pay attenton to where it DLs.
Open the archive.
Double click the executable file.
It will find your Memorex (Lite-On) burner.
Initiate the flash update by clicking the magic button.
Restart

You may also want to use the LtnRPC utility shown along with the firmware to make your drive region free. You should also locate the bitsetting utility for booktyping the +R and +R DL media burned as DVD-ROM. We had a thread on this today and it is here:

How old is your stand alone dvd player? If it's close to 2 years old or older, then you need to book type your DVD+R DL media to DVD-ROM to make is easier on your dvd player.

I don't have any Memorex dvd burner, but since your Memorex is an OEM Lite-On SOHW-1673S, you may want to go to this thread and scroll down to read what I've replied in there. In addition, I've got a Lite-On Book Type Utility and a guide on how to Book Type using both DVD Decrypter and Nero in there as well. Go here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/249478 and scroll down.
