(Note that I originally posted this message in the DVD Shrink forum. I now question whether that was appropriate because something likely went wrong before my use of DVD Shrink. The original post follows:)

Hello All,

My attempts to accomplish a backup of ?Sling Blade? are failing. (This is the director?s cut, released 06/07/2005.)

Everything seems to proceed nicely from the outset. With AnyDVD running, I use DVD Decrypter to move files to my hard drive. This concludes without error messages.

DVD Shrink is next up and this is where things come to a grinding halt. Shrink doesn?t get through it?s typically brief analysis. An error message is displayed. It advises that one of the VOB?s contains invalid data.

Thinking I had a ?bad press?, I exchanged the DVD for a new one. The same error occurs. The same VOB is identified.

I?ve successfully accomplished more than 50 backups. This is the only movie which has presented an invalid VOB.

Any ideas?

Mike

Have you tried any other programs such as DVD Decrypter (Free d/l from this site), AnyDVD ($10 discount for aD members), or DVDFabDecrypter (Free as well)?

madhotdam,
I too have had this same problem but was able to overcome like this:
Do not decript first just use DVDShirnk with DVD43 running in the background. Start DVD43 and put the disk in the drive then start DVDShrink and read the file from the disk. Then reauthor or whatever and send the file to your HD. That will decrypt, shrink and rip all at the same time then just burn the file as usual.

There are three kinds of men: The ones that learn by reading; The few who learn by observation;
The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence and find out for themselves...

This circumstance has been resolved and it came with a surprise.

DVD Shrink reported the invalid VOB because the ripping didn?t happen correctly. For the first time in my experience, the ?tried & true? combo of AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter failed.

Success came to pass when I set that combo aside and used DVDFab Decrypter to do the ripping. Once done, DVD Shrink found everything to be in order.

Who?d have ?thunk it?? I certainly didn?t.

Thanks for the responses.
