ok ive been backing up my dvds for a good while now useing dvd shrink to convert dvd into iso. and then dvd decryptor to burn the iso. onto disc. Ive used the same brand discs over and over either maxell or memerox. They have all played fine on stand alone dvd players. now all of a sudden all of my dvds when put into a dvd player just sit there and try to load then finally a read error pops up whats going on here? This is what dvd decryptor reads when its done.I am mainly concerned about the status:incomplete.also i have recently upgraded to service pack 1(i know a little behind)but i have burnt since then been fine until now.also have ugraded firmware on drive.

I'm not familiar with that error report, but it looks like you're trying to burn a DVD- in a DVD+ burner?
Also it might be worth un-installing both programs, rebooting, and then re-installing them.

This appears to be a read log from DVD Decrypter. Since the problem is with burned media, a burn log would be more helpful.
The three most common causes of burned DVDs not being readable by standalone players are (1) poor quality media, (2) burning above 4X, and (3) outdated firmware.
Memorex (most of it) is pretty bad media now days. Maxell is good.
It is possible that the burns were never finalized successfully and that's why the players are not recognizing the disks since they have no idea where to look on the disks for the data. That's why a Nero History log or DVD Decrypter burn log would be helpful. Nero would be the most help. A free trial version of Nero is at www.Nero.com. If you post a Nero log, be sure to remove your name and serial number and only post the last section of the log which begins with your name and serial number. The history file can be found here:

I have found, after several hundred failures, that poor media like Memorex, tends to go bad after a few months. They will play great for a while then.... sudden death. If you're able to rip them to your HD, do it and then burn them to good meda like TY or Verbatim. I use nothing but Verbatim MCC 004 and get maybe one bad disk in a hundred.. And usually that one is my on dam fault!!

Ive always used DVD Decrypter to burn my dvds never tried Nero cause decrypter always worked fine. How do i get a burn log from decrypter? also another thing ive never had trouble with memorex(the ritek kind).It just dont seem to be finilizing the disc all the sudden.

I mean the log Decrypter shows in the window as it's burning a disk. It does the same when reading. Honestly I don't think that's going to give enough info. Could you download Nero (free trial) and install (DO NOT install InCD, it'll wreck things). Do a burn and post the Nero History. That should give the info to help track this problem down. I use Decrypter for burning myself but always resort to Nero for finding problems.

To get a decrypter burn log, go into the tools tab, scroll down to settings and click that. In the next menu click on events. At the bottom of that screen you will see "ON EXIT" in that box put a check mark in "Save the log" tell it where you want to save it, and check or uncheck whether you want it to be over written each time. Then all you have to do is go where you told Decrypter to save it and there is your log.

ok heres the decrypter log if this doesent help i can download Nero trial but hopefully this will help. I just dont understand why all of the sudden this is happening it says finalized, but then it wont play in my dvd player and im useing the same method i always have. could my burner just be wore out?

Here's what I perceive to be some possible problems.
1. The media ia bad (Ritek so not likely but still possible. Try another brand and see if the problem persists).
2. The burner doesn't like to eat the media because firmware is outdated (no, firmware is up to date).
3. The standalone player is faulty (do other disks still play correctly? Do they play on a friend's standalone?).
4. The burner is bad. (do the disks play back in the burner?
5. The external enclosure is bad.
6. The USB cable is bad.
7. Software is corrupted or incompatible with burner.
These are just off the top of my head. The Nero log would probably be more helpful.

Ok i think i have found the problem here,i found some old memorex 4x laying around and I burnt the image onto it. IT WORKED.Here is the confusing part though. I have always been able to burn onto 4x and 8x both maxell and memorex. The memerox disc i bought the other day had the big label on it about 2.4x and 4x drives need a firmware upgrade to support the new 8x write speed standards. I downloaded the firmware so how come its not working on the new maxell and memorex 8x disc but had no problem with the old 8x disc. should i just give up and go buy a drive that supports the new 8x?

Quite honestly, as cheap as burners have become, I probably would get a new one. I have an old Memorex 4X burner that I occsionally use for one reason or another. OTOH I have upgraded to a NEC 2500, then to a NEC 3500, and just a couple of weeks ago, a NEC 3540. I still use all depending on whether I'm on my desktop or one of the laptops.
Glad you found the cause.

There's a conflict somewhere, firmware problems, or that particular media is a bad batch. Some burners have problems with some media for whatever reason. I'd stick to NEC, Benq, or Lite-On based burners. Most of the hobbyists, etc. use these OEMs. Plextor is also good but more expensive.
If you want to do the Nero download and history log, we might be able to narrow down the problem.

Ok i think i figured it out. The new 8x requires a firmware update wich i downloaded and it still didnt work even though the ones from an older 8x stack i had worked at max speed. Well i did a trial and error and all i have to do is burn it at a slower speed (2x) wich i am not happy with but thanks so much for helping me. But still one question how come i can burn at increased speeds on my old 8x and have to lower my speeds on the new 8x?

For whatever reason, your burner doesn't like that media. It's always best to find a media that your burner really likes and then stick to it. I suspect the burner's firmware is likely the problem or that batch of media is not of the highest quality. As time passes there will be fewer and fewer firmware updates, if any at all. That's one reason many of use buy new burners from time to time.
