Now I apologise in advance (knowing its the wrong forum) but What do you guys use to burn a 1:1 DL copy Ive tried searching but I can only find single layer back ups.
I ask this as my DL discs should arrive tommorow and Im RARING to go if you know what I mean.
Oh and by the way Ive just used a couple of them Longten cr@p discs in conjunction with 1 click DVD with HORRENDOUS results I thought Max Headroom had made a comeback LOL, how much was down to the discs and how much was down to the Program I dont know but I really dont fancy using a 1 click prog to do it as they just seem well just too easy or is it just me?
Thanks

@puds1970
For a straight DL copy u can use DVD Decrypter ISO or File read write operation. I still like to extract the files to HD in file mode and then burn, but ISO read/write will work. You can also set the disc size in Decrypter to DL, and it handles the layer transition with no problems. I just burned a Verb DL at 4x and it came out fine. Most would go 2.4x, but i got these Verbs for 2 bucks each, so i can experiment a little. Yes they are more expensive than regular discs, but nothing can replace them if you want a 100% copy of a DL movie with no compression, and you want to keep everything. I save them for long movies that would be compressed too much for my liking if i tried to shrink down to a DVD5. Oh, and in decrpyter if you do an ISO read, and then select the ISO file instead of the MDS file when you go to ISO Write, decrypter comes up with a funny error message saying you picked the wrong file, and it will fix it for you this time.. So click on the ISO file for a laugh. It will automatically select the MDS file so no harm done.

Thanks MaxBurn Ive just found a guide on comcast.net that uses DVD Decrypter so unless I get advised otherwise I will follow your lead.

You might want to start using ImgBurn for burning DL discs. It's the successor--albeit without ripping ability--to DVD Decrypter. According to the info here (http://www.imgburn.com/) it has improved ability to calculate the layer break compared to Decrypter. On the other hand, I had burned probably 20 DL discs with Decrypter without a problem, but if the author of that app says this is better I tend to believe him.

Personally, I rip with AnyDVD/Decrypter, edit out crapola with VobBlanker, edit commands, if necessary, with PGCEdit, rebuild the ISO with IFOEdit (probably not necessary since I've never had trouble burning with Nero from the VIDEO_TS folder), then burn with ImgBurn. Not a coaster yet and the disc comes out exactly the way you want it, not the way the studios want you to see it. I cannot friggin' stand discs which begin with five previews before going to the main menu.

it's NOT the discs...your nero is outdated...

due to the version of nero that you have, your drive is not properly recognized...as you can see above "connected to MMC as unknown drive...Std. MMC recorder...

the newest version of nero is 6.6.0.16, your version IS ANCIENT~!
update your nero version...this will also resolve this problem of not being able to detect your DMA settings :

...i certainly won't recommend anyone goes Nero 7 for a while yet, let everyone else out there fight the bugs for you, wait 'til it's more stable....

and here's how i see it personally (ie for my uses of Nero). i only use Nero for audio/data cd's, and straight dvd-video burns - that's it. so for me there's absolutely no need to go 7.x

Just recieved my DL Verbatims with 1 drawback they come up on DVD id as Ritek D01 just phoned Bigpockets they apololgised and I should recieve the Verbs tommorow.
Morale of the story the internet is a great research tool because if I didnt know you guys I wouldnt have been any wiser regarding not knowing about DVD id or the list of media codes and which ones are better etc.
Basically I was sent discs that cost half the price as Verbs and because they had no label on them or no invoice etc (make of that what you want )or without your priceless knowledge (kiss kiss) I would have been ripped.
Thanks again

i too would not recommend using Nero 7 just yet, as per creaky's explanation, i am more than happy with my Nero 6 ultra, while others may have already have success using Nero 7, i will personally WAIT until a very stable version is reported before i consider trying it. :)

also, while the Ritek DLs are my 2nd choice of DL media to use, i DO consider the Verbatim MKM001 coded ones the very BEST...knowledge is power, it's a good thing you were not ripped off, especially paying the premium for Verbatim DLs only to receive something "not as good", don't get me wrong, i've had a lot of success with RitekD01, as per my sig., but the Verbatim MKM's are simply THE BEST~ :)

I have burned two Verbatum Double Layer Disks. They are still pricey but finally low enough to cure the itch. It's not worth the cost and my itch is gone. I so far cannot see any difference in the picture. I can get name brand 4.7 gig on sale at BB for $17.99 for 50. The Double Layer were $11.99 for 3 at WalMart. Not really worth it yet.
