Hi,

My computer screen freezes when using tmpGenc or nero vision express to convert a avi. movie to DVD format.
Will i need an extra codec for my PC?

i'm new so try and make it easy to understand.

Welcome to the forum.
Computer freezes can be a result of many things especially when using process demanding programs. Can you give us the specs of your computer (Ram, CPU, Hard Drive, Video card, OS)?

A few basic do's and don'ts:
1)Clean up and Defrag your Hard Drive on a regular basis.
2)Shutdown any unnecessary programs or apps.
3)Disable screen savers, monitor shutdowns, hard drive shutdown, hybernation.
4)Scan your PC for Spyware and Viruses on a regular basis.
5)Leave your PC alone during encoding and burn processes.
6)Do one process at a time.

@henryting this may be so but without looking at the specs you cannot tell. I to have had NeroVisionExpress freeze up on me after transcoding for no apparent reason, no multitasking and I have 1024meg ram. I couldnt even close Nero without closing comp down

If your computer is freezing try wraping a blanket around it.

You PC sounds like it is running to hot!!! Try opening it up (The side of the case) and give her another go also put a fan blowing on it if you have one, If this seems to solve the problem it is probably time to aquire a new fan for your processor. AMD's do run hot there is no doubt about that.

Cheers

Ripsteen,
What program are you running when you get the error?
Are you by chance running TMPGnc when you get the error?
If so there's an old fix I found.

TMPGEnc Gives Illegal floating decimal point error
A fix for this is to disable Use floating point DCT under the quantize matrix tab in setting. However you first have to disable SSE and SSE-2, and this is how...

Click Option and click environmental setting. Click the CPU tab. Unselect Enable SSE and Enable SSE-2. Then Click ok. Now click Setting and click the Quantize matrix tab. Use floating point DCT may have been automatically unselected but if not, unselect it.
Here's the link for the fix above. You might want to bookmark this page since it has a good amount of info on it besides this.

Have you overclocked your CPU? Overclocking it will do this as well cause the CPU can get to hot. I had mine over clocked before and had a heck of a time running programs till i backed it off a little to where the computer became stable.
