you can use cloneCD for cd based games. I also use nero but i make sure to do both the read and write process as slow as possible.

i have a fliptop and would highly reccomend them to anyone, i bought mine for 35 pounds from a computer show but they are available direct from psxcase.com cheaper. the flip tops will play all backups except dvd rips. but who needs dvdrips when we all have dvdrs now. i installed mine in about 12 mins and had no problems whatsoever although i agree missing the silver power button ribbon with the screw can be a little tricky but a small piece of sticky tape makes life much easier. all fitting instructions are also on psxcase.com. see ya all c.

Yeah, I just bought a flip top too and took only 10 mins. to install with no flaws. Also just made a backup of my orignal NBA Live 2003 and works perfectly. I recommend this over any solder mod chip.

I have had my fliptop for about a month now and absolutly love it! I use recordnow for both cd and dvd games. I just do an exact copy and they all come out fine. The only problem I had is when there were scatches on one and I made a couple of coasters in the process. I suggest to avoid this to read and burn with the same drive.
This will take longer but will save you a coaster if there is a problem with the source disk.

For cd's i still use dvd decrypter actually. And just makes an iso image of the disc.
It works 9 times outta 10
For the one it wouldnt work on i used nero and copied from one drive to the other NOT on the fly though. And works fine. If your comfortable with nero just use that. Click CD, click CD copy. If you have 2 cd or dvd drives put the orignal in the non burner drive and make sure that's list as the source drive. Make sure "On the Fly" is NOT selected.
After that let it burn away.
SHould work no problems.

Here's a question, for people who use swap magic. I know what the red(pink) border means, and i know what blue means. But what in the world does green mean. It wont boot at all but you can keep hitting X and but no go.

I downloaded 2 games that i have cause i was lazy and the maker made them bin and cue. Problem i think is that they are really dvd's that now fit on cd's and i burned them to both types for trial and i always get a green border with the cd version and dvd disc goes red immediatly.
SOrry for the long post :(
Thanks for reading though!

also postal...

I always burn my cd backups with either nero or dvd decrypter at 16X!!!

I dont know why you have to burn at 1x
Have you tried higher on a different program?
You can download nero for a free 30 day trial i believe.

That or your using really bad quality cd's???
I use sony and memorex for cds
FUji for dvds

Anyone ever try Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD ($99.99) or Pinnacle Instant Copy ($49.99) to backup PS2 games; cd or dvd? I'm thinking of checking it out once I order and get the fliptop/swap discs. It looks pretty sweet.

i was thinking about getting a flip top especially when i winded up jacking up 2 ps2 consoles (luckily i was able to trick the stores for a exchange...lol) using the magic 3.6...pretty sure i got a lemon after the third try....
well i want to know how the fliptop works and how to install it....do you take the cd-drive top off...can you use gs2 or ar2...or you can only use magic sawp disc?.....let me know so i can make the decesion...don't want to deal with soldering anymore...too risky...

It has to be something easier than this???!!! :(

I believe you can use AR or GS but i never have. From what i have heard, its worth the extra bucks for the magic swap disks. They work like a charm.
Fliptop is a low-risk install, takes 15-30mins, and requires a screw and a screw driver...
Thats it.
If you look above there are many links with install pics.

DMC does the same thing to me. I just start when it first shows up. CptCrash Don't waste your money, Recordnow works great! It is the watered down version of max and I have had no problems.

I am like a total newbie to this stuff so please cut me some slack.
I followed some advice on the forom to make a back up of Lord of the Rings: the two towers. I have a HP 200i DVD Burner and i'm using some HP DVD+RW discs. I have DVD Decrypter and I have already made it to an ISO file. But I need help after that because around 69-70% a menu pops that says
Quote:
I/O error! Scsi Status:0x02 Interpretation: Check condition
Quote:
and a buncha other stuff with the logical block address out of range.
Please help, Dills2214 said he succesfully backed up the two towers with only DVD Decrypter. Do I need a program like DVD95Copy?
Any advice would be much appreciated!!

first off PS2 will not read RW period. Also will not read +R.
You do not need to use DVD Decrypter.
I use Recordnow that came with my DVD burner for both CD and DVD games. Works great.

Thanks guys for the info, but I have also tried using RecordNow Max but the program is not compatable with my HP 200i. if +rw dont work then getting +r's will not be a problem. If I were to use Record now Max would it make a successful backup of the two towers? It is 6.33 or so GB. Again i'm a newb so sorry if I bore you guys out.......

First off...are you talking about the movie or the game?

Cause i backed up the game with dvd decrypter. And its under 4 GB so im guessing your talking about the movie. I can help but PM me. This is a forum for PS2 games.

And PS... DVD+R's do work for backups...
RW's do not for me

Hey, would everyone who has had success using fliptops and +r/+rw media mind posting what version of PS2 you have? Don't tell me what *should* and *shouldn't* work as I've seen it turn into flame wars in the other threads :P

Just your personal experiences if you please :D

Thanks a ton,
