I have a V7 PS2 and installed the flip top but I get the disc read error everytime and when the disc is read it makes a lot of noise like the white plastic disc is not pushing down enough on the dvd. When I place the original dvd rom cover it runs just fine. I tried to raise and lower the laser but that didnt work. Also when I screw in all 8 screws the part directly under the reset/eject button is not flush. It wont stay flush and it feels like there is not enough space for the silver ribbon and reset switch. If anyone has any ideas please let me know thanks!

Kairu-
Heh, It's been a whle since I had a Fatty with a Flip top...from what I remember you make want to make sure that the white disc from your old PS2 cover is loose in the new PS2 so that it can spin freely. You may also want to adjust the screws, as previously stated. Although dwaynep thinks you should loosen the screws...I'm thinking you may want to go tighter. Also, I can't see how you'd have any problem with the ribbon cable unless you didn't let it keep it's original form inside the PS2 so that it bends in the right places...
But yeah...I'm just talking, it took me an embarrassing 6-7 PS2 to get it right. Good thing you could buy a PS2 off of eBay cheap back then...Hell, I bought PS2's cheaper then than you could now...go figure.
Anyways, good luck

What do you mean seized...who would do that? And for what purpose? Remove the reset eject switch? Uhm...once the PS2 is opened all you need to do is push on the buttons until they pop out of place...

Hey everyone. I am proud to report I have fixed my PS2 flip top problem! Ok so for you guys out there who had the same trouble as I, here is what I did. On the original PS2 cover in the very back far back corner directly behind the reset switch is a metal slab with white tape. I removed that and placed it in the same slot on the flip top cover. Then I was looking at the differences between the two covers and noticed that the little tab thing with all the screws that helps hold the reset/eject switch in both covers was a little big in the flip top cover. That tab thing is removable on the flip top cover so on a whim I took it out and put the flip top cover back on to give it a try. I was unable to put the screw in that went directly under the reset switch. When I finished the whole underside of the PS2 was FLUSH! I was amazed and hoped it would work *I could never get the whole thing flush before* From the first spin of the dvd I could tell it would work. There was no loud spinning noise *note I never had grinding because I did use the original PS2 white disc, I never received a second white disc with my flip top. I think they stopped doing this because it never worked* The disc read even faster than before! Now the only problem is my game seems to skip a little and take a little longer to load. the write was max speed *it was already set* Are there any suggestions on what the best speed to us is? Oh, P.S. I tried loosing the screws earlier but I truly believe that, while in some cases it might work, the best idea is to make sure that EVERYTHING is flush and this means having most of the screws in and all of them being ALL the way in. I did loose one of the long screws though but doesnt seem to matter.

That is mainly in the US, and because of premodded PS2's and modchips. You can still buy accessories and etc from other countries.
I still agree one should be able to mod their own equipment they paid for however one wants.

So you think it's safe to buy just a flip top then?

Fantastic kairu...I had been fighting with mine since last year and never really thought about that piece. I have been just using weight on mine. Works like a charm now. Thank you.

I don't have that on my fliptop, my reset switch is on a tab thing that I just push down on to stay intact in the fliptop lid, so I didn't need to do that part. I also didn't need to loosen screws on fliptop under the white magnet either. Maybe some fliptops are different than others.
Anyway great post and thanks for sharing that info. Worked great for me.

@ smokeyrain
Thanks for the heads up on that problem. Followed Kiaru's instructions to the letter and the yougfella is now playing away on the ps2. This solution is a must for anyone who bought their fliptop cover from psxservices.co.uk. There is no mention of the metal piece in their instructions. Once again thanks smokeyrain for pointing me in the right direction and a big thanks to Kiaru for posting this
