I prefer AntiVir + Sygate Personal Firewall + FireFox with Adblock, NoScript etc. I also have M$ AntiSpyware with real time-protection on, ewido and eScan. Quite much, I think ;)

@dejay6969: Good to hear :) Ewido is one of the best programs. eScan is better IMHO for viruses, but ewido finds better spyware etc.

@ Kemisti
You rock!. I tried Ewido and I found more spyware that I could count. It's a great program. Think I'll purchase the full version.

@Jamzbond: Thanks for your compliments :) Ewido gets better everyday. Full version is needed only for real-time protection. If you need it, then it's worth buying.

@Matt72: I guess that Bargain Buddy could be "easily" removed just uninstalling it via Add/remove programs and then deleting its folder in safe mode.

@kemistri,

I have deleted the darn thing several times but it comes back. I'm guessing a registry cleaner would help in deleting any entries that have no file folders as it seems to regenerate everytime I reboot. Granted its on a test laptop I have and use internet explorer exclusively. ccleaner did away with any remnants (for now) as no longer is it found. Getting into this antivirus/firewall and the nitty gritty of adware/ spyware is something I'm getting into more as I notice a difference in speed now that bargain crap is gone :).

-kemisti-, bargain buddy doesn't always show up in add/remove programs. i usually manually remove that type of stuff thru regedit.

Ad-aware is ok, but eg. M$ AntiSpyware, ewido and spy sweeper are better for spy/adware.

Would it be a good idea to have 2 anti-virus programs (or spyware/adware) to extra security as oppose to one or would one just interfere with the other?

I started using avast! antivirus a few days ago and i noticed that the last time a new update was available was on 1-3-06...
do i want something that updates more frequently? doesnt it only updating every few days put me at risk?
What other free antivirus would anyone suggest that will update more often and is as good or better than avast?

Now that AVG is going to discontinue the Free Edition as of Jan 1, 2007 what do you suggest that is comparable (and Free).

Thank you,
