remove the bezal, which your comp manuel should tell you. then remove the side. break off the metal "thing"(???) so you can put your burner in. Realize that this will void all warranties.
It was 3 minutes in between your post, have some patience. You should probably have put this in the comp hardware forum.

I agree look at your manual, each Dell opens differently. I have two Dells and they are not the same in how they open. Or go back and check out the Dell site, they have support and manuals. http://www.dell.com

@ TheShiz, it does not really matter what PC you have, installing a new burner will be much the same.
Have you actually taken the sides off the PC yet? Have you even had a look?
Here's the thing, it is very difficult to actually spoon feed anyone how to do it.
YOU HAVE TO HAVE A GO YOURSELF FIRST!
If you just keep demanding help, you will not get it. Most here have had to learn by themselves, including myself.
If you do not try yourself, you will receive very little help! Have you removed the plastic drive covers yet?, do you know how the drive is actually held in?
Please just try, have at least a look. You will not get help if you are not even willing to look!
It may sound harsh, but you MUST try & put a bit of effort into it. We are all here in our own free time & choose to help, or not to help, as the case may be.

What Pulsar said is true because we could tell you but we'd jsut end up exchanging a bunch of post asking things like do I need to pull that hard ,I'm afraid I'll break it. What cable does what?
But then I again I disagree b/c if he has never opened a comp before he just might break it.

TheShiz:
I am (like the others) a bit leery of offering too much help, here. It sounds as if you have never opened the case on a PC before, and this makes many of us a bit nervous.
This question really does not belong in this forum (ar at least in this area of the forum). And, there are Dell forums that deal with the precise issue you have raised.
However, if you wish to pursue this, then I suggest you visit this link:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim2400/en/index.htm
There you will find all of the various owner's manuals, and even the service manual for the Dimension 2400, in several downloadable formats.
If you are merely asking how you remove the outer case, most people are able to figure this out by just studying the case. Dell keeps changing this, even during a model run, so no one can offer a definitive answer to this. At times they used two or three large "hand-screws." Earlier they used regular screws. Then, for awhile, they had two round buttons which released one entire side of the outer case so it would just snap off. They have also (briefly) used other schemes.
The manuals above will help you here, and also with the issues of adding / changing hardware.
I really suggest a friend who is knowledgable, though, if you have never had a PC opened up.

What the guy above me said.
Like a book.
There should also be extra bars on the bottom right side on the inside, to help you secure you burner.
And don't forget about the Jumper. Find out wheather it needs to be on slave or master.
I put a burner in my friends dell, pretty easy.

Use the manual, or go to www.dell.com and download the manual on how to open up a dell desktop. It shouldn't be that hard.
