it means the quality of the video that u put onto it
the higher the quality of the video, the more space it takes up
so you could have 60min of excelent quality video, 120min of normal quality video and 240min of poor quality video
no idea what AccuCORE is - try google searching it
hope that helps
assuming darcangel got the Sony 8x DVD+R media, made in japan, then you got some great quality Taiyo Yuden stuff...but, you will NOT find TY media in the dash format for Sony 8x~ :)
side note: if you get the MADE IN JAPAN Sony 4x DVD-R, there is a chance for TYGO1s, TY media, but NOT in the 8x speed~ :)
Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

@darcangel
Check the manufacturer of those sony's and post back. docTY knows his stuff.
Here's a prog that will give the manufacturer id:

Japanese sony dash 8x media: Sony08D1
Taiwanese sony dash 8x media: Sony08D1
I've used the Japanese dash 8x and it is very good. Not made by ty,but still good. Notice sony uses the exact same MID code on their taiwanese dash 8x. They also did the same on their older dash 4x speed of Sony04D1 coming from both taiwan and austria!
The 60/120/240 min recordings pertain to stand alone tv dvd burners.Quality deteriorates with the slower speed,just like vcr recordings.
To switch the mode, it's on your remote control for your stand alone burner on the tele.
You should have around 6 different speeds ranging from HQ to SLP.
