Help!

I'm in over my head.

My wife has about 40 hours of super 8 video that I transferred to a DVR. A toshiba XS-52 something or other, I forget the exact model. Anyways it has a large hard drive that I have the movies stored on. It also has a DVD burner. I have burned a 2 hour home movie from the hard drive of the DVR and want to load it in my P.C.

The problem occurs when I load that in my HP computer's DVD drive. I apparently don't have any program that can deal with the video. I need to edit the footage and eventually compile a finished product and burn it to a DVD.

My DVR does that but it is a bit clunky to say the least as compared with working with a computer.

I have searched for a primer on this topic but haven't found exactly what I need. I know how irritating it can be to have the same questions asked over and over again, but I have given it my best shot and am at my whits end.
