I am trying to backup a ps2 game NBA LIVE 2005, I used DVD Decrypter and I follow the various tutorials. Copy game to hard drive, once done put in DVD(Verbatim DVD+R DataLifePlus 8X) and Mode->Iso(Write) and burns disk. Once complete I take my newly purchased swap magic 3.6, puts that in ps2 and waits until it is loaded, then I use slide tool to take out and put backuped disc in. Takes a about a minute to load and then from there the game is really choppy. As if there are files missing E..(freeze)...Sports...It...(Freeze)...The...(Freeze)....Game. LOL. But it staggers its way through the backup but never able to play it. I have burned at 1X, 4X, I have burned ISO file and then the MDS File. Both with same results. Cleaned ps2 several times with disc cleaner. Can anyone help? Is it the disc, the Burning software, or the ps2. I have nero, alcohol 120, and dvd decrypter, which is better.

okay first of all DONT USE DVD+R.The PS2 has a harder time reading those discs.Use DVD-R.Second,the media your using is just awful for backing up games, use good media like Verbatims,Taiyo Yudens or TDK.

if you use +R try setting the booktype to DVD-Rom
there are posts here on how to do that. Do a search on
booktype. Also Verbatim Datalife should work fine as there
are many people here who swear by them.
I never use +R myself, i always use the -R
i have had much better luck with them, but i have not changed
the booktype with the +R to DVD-Rom, i am told that will make
all the difference in the world as standard store bought DVD games
are DVD-Rom which means the PS2 will be much more compatible with that format than +R

Agrees with above. Booktype it. DVD+R's work better with newer PS2's (v.9 and later). The middle v.5-8's are 50/50, and v.1-4 work better with DVD-R's.

Okay that was some good info. The thing that is really strange when i first started trying to backup games I copied Tony Hawk 3 onto some DVD-R that I purchased from a flea market, not even a name on it. But I did not have swap magic at the time of course it did not work. But when i got swap magic I played that game and it worked without a hitch. so i realized that we have DVD-R ps2. Also i have another question, not sure if I can ask or not, but I got a game from online and when opened it had like 51 "files". Not sure what I was supposed to do with the "files", but I put then together as an iso file and burnt. No luck with that. What am I supposed to with all those files, how do I put them together? any software? After together what do
I do.

they are rar files (compressed files)
you need to get a program called Winrar
Then install it
then create a folder on your PC for the game (empty folder)
then go to the folder that has all those files in it
then right click on the first numbered file (like game.001)
choose "extract to" from the drop down menu
choose the folder you just made as your destination
then extract it and you should get your ISO file to burn.

and no name media is generally a very bad idea, not only do they
not work most of the time. but even if they do those manufactureres
use chea ink that your PS2 laser has a harder time reading. So in
the long run it will stress your laser out and you may have big problems. Good media is really not that expensive, like $20 for
a 25 pack even in retail stores. A new laser is much more costly.
