trh90,
Hi,
Make sure you have the latest firmware for your burner. For your info, DVD Decrypter had no more support, the latest release was 3.5.4. Download AnyDVD and clonedvd2 from here for 21 trial period and you will soon find out that it is better than dvd decryter.

trh90 ,
Welcome to the forum. Below is a thread where Nephilim explaines what it is a possible workaround. It is nothing but when the drive can not talk to the system. Are you using Shrink to set the .iso image file or another program

He is burning w/ DVDDecrypter not ripping. Clonedvd2 is good but it costs $ and DVDDecrypter is free The author of DVDDecrypter once he was threaten w/ a lawsuit folded DVDDecrypter and launched imgburn which is a program used to burn an .iso

Imgburn is not a ripper as it is a burner. Lightning UK agreed to close downthe Decrypting part. DVDFAB Decrypter ( free) can handle it and AnyDVD ( $39.00 (-) this months special price) can also handle it.

trh90,
Use DVDfab Decrypter or AnyDVD if you are trying to rip a DVD. Then use Shrink to process the movie. You really need to explain what you are trying to do.

Below is a guide on how to rip, compress and burn a DVD using Freeware.
Print it out and try it.

i used decrypter first then i used shrink and tried to burn with decrypter. i keep getting an error. i tried imgburn and got the same error. my drive then goes into a continuous spinning and won't stop. i have burned to this drive before but only cds and from an older computer.

in the first few seconds of burning it fails and says the reason is semaphore timeout period expired. what does that mean?

The burner is not talking to the computer. Is the burner a cd or DVD burner?

i tried copying a cd with roxio, which is the software it came with and it failed too. i think maybe it is time for tech support for the burner. can read not write problem not decrypter compatibility.

also...have you tried any tests when Roxio's not installed ?, as it can screw up many other programs when it wants to. it's worth trying...try uninstalling it, then uninstall properly via Roxio Zapper - http://www.microadvantage.net/utilities/

..it can't hurt to try, you never know...

i didn't install roxio until after i found out i was having problems. i wanted to see if burning with roxio would work since it was the software that came with the burner. the burner just won't burn. i can see it, read from it but can't burn to it.

I would suggest checking the firmware for a possible update. Use the link in my signature for firmware checks.

When you are in DVD Decrypter in ISO write mode look at the top of the right hand side of decrypter. It will give the model and firmware version of your burner. Then check the firmware site for an update.

trh90 ,
Tried to find some info on the burner. Lacie recommends Verbatim DVD's w/ that burner. You are using (+) DVDs. You are also not the first person to have problems w/ it. It could also be your usb setup. Is the usb setup 2.0 compliant. Is the cable bad and can the computer keep up w/ the burner

just bought the computer. it exceeds the burner requirements, made sure of that before i bought it. usb 2.0. can't give you computer specs because i don't have it with me right now. it could be a possiblity that the cable is bad. i might have another one that will work, i'll try that when i get home. i do use verbatim lightscribe DVD+R disks, only ones i can get around here.

i changed the cable and that didn't fix it. i checked the firmware on the site and this burner isn't shown. i called lacie and they will not support it because the company that i bought it from put and internal burner in a external case. the company i bought it from said it should work. i just got a message from windows saying the device had malfunctioned. i think i will reinstall the drivers and see if that helps.

anyone have any other suggestions?

I have several USB drives and as stated above semaphore timeout error is lack of communication from drive to comp. I got this error with one of my drives because of an ALI chipset in the case which is known to cause problems. If your case and comp can handle firewire try that and see if it works out.
