Hi all, Is there a program to check my AVI and MPEG files before i attempt to convert them to DVD. Just lately i have had no luck in trying to get my films on to DVD. Sometimes they stop encoding and freeze up everything on the screen, and other times they finish encoding and burn to disc, but when i try to play them on a DVD player the picture freezes and the sound carries on. I am using Nero to burn my discs. All the files play right through on the computer before attempting to convert to DVD, so how can test them at this stage before wasting any more discs. Can you help me please.
Regards, Bobby.

hi tycapel7,

You can download AVIcodec v1.2 Build 110 from this forum to check what kind of movies files you are having. For encoding Nero is not a good choice, why not switch to Winavi or santadvd for a change.
At the same make sure that your burner has the latest firmware and with the good quality dvd media. Do not use memorex media, use brand like verbratim, taiyo yuden, or maxell made in japan to avoid roller coaster or failure.

Thankyou for that henryting, I will give those two programs a try. Do you have any ideas why some of my files play up that way. I thought if you can play them with no problems on the computer, you should be able to make DVD's from them. Bobby.

tycapel7,

You may want to try out DivXtoDVD which is also pretty good and fastfor encoding.
Well, some dvd players are very picky. I myself had a painful experience over this. So, I had found that the best burner in the market is benQ 1640. And the best programme for copying dvd is AnyDVD and clonedvd2 and of course you have to pay a small price for it. Always buy good qualities dvd media like verbratim, taiyo yuden or maxell or fuji made in japn to avoid disappoint later on and wasting of money. There are of course free programmes which are also pretty good like DVD Shrink and imgburn ( continue from previous dvd dcryter).

Ok I now have the free version of Divx to DVD, the one that doesnt leave a watermark. What type of file will it make for me to burn on to DVD, and will it work in Nero 6 and in which section, or if not, can you recommend an alternative program to create my DVD's. Regards, Bobby.

Thankyou all very much for your advice and ideas on what programs i should use to get the best results. For the first time I have managed to create a DVD that works and doesnt have any faults on it.
The two programs i used were DivX to DVD and Nero Record. What a treat to use, and much faster than the way i have been doing it.
Once again thankyou and keep up the good work. Regards, Bobby.
