Softmodding Guide
Note: This tut is written assuming that you are using Splinter Cell. For 007: Agent Under Fire or MechAssault, it?s pretty much the same thing; you can probably figure it out.
1. Find the Splinter Cell Linux Installer for NTSC or PAL, depending on where you live, and download it. Try looking for it in Xbins or Slashbomb. (The first time I did it, I ended up with an outdated French version of UnleashX.) By the way, you should probably try to get the EvolutionX (EvoX) Linux Installer. Note: A lot of the time, the files for Splinter Cell come in two parts; be sure to get both.
2. Open your Action Replay menu on your computer. Drag the Linux Installer file(s) into the memory card section and wait for it to finish copying (orange bar) before you take it out of the memory card reader.
3. Open the disc tray on your Xbox and put the AR memory card in the primary controller?s memory card slot (either one). Copy the Linux files to your Xbox?s hard drive from the memory card, then pop in Splinter Cell and start it up. Note: If there are any other Splinter Cell saves saved on your hard drive, you must delete them before you continue. Also, don?t try to run the files from your memory card (instead of from the hard drive), as this may severely damage your Xbox.
4. Select Load Game, then Checkpoints then select the profile called Linux or something like that (it should be the only one).
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to install it. You can test to see if it has installed properly by simply opening the disc tray when the Xbox is off; if something other than the original Microsoft Dash comes up, it probably worked.
I hope this helps. If you have any specific questions, just reply to this thread. Anything else, just start a new topic asking for help. Good luck in your modding!
WARNING: Attempting to play hacked or modified game content on Xbox Live will get you banned from Matchmaking. Even if you don?t play online, but you are signed in or not, Bungie may be able to tell that you are playing on modified maps or with modified profiles; THEY WILL BAN YOU! Playing modded custom games will also get you banned! Mod at your own risk!
Hope this helps!
