need help with my Toshiba SD-R6252 DVD+RW drive...

My Toshiba SD-R6252 DVD+R drive is not reading my new Verbatim 16x DVD+R discs. This is very odd because in DVD decrypter is says that my drive writes up to 16x....also I have the newest firmware installed. However I do remember having to update my driver for 8X DVD+Rs. Do I have to do the same for this one?? Please help!! thanx.
