I wonder what's with the Charlotte_Disc1 label???? STRANGE!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My guess:

This was done at some stage (probably in the mastering process) to try to deter employees from "theft" of the work, as it was hoped they would not bother to steal some work they had never heard of ("Charlotte.") If someone comes across a huge collection of files that is in a folder on a PC that says "Charlotte," they are likely to just move on. It is even possible that the original plan was to rename the compilation prior to the final master being sent for pressing, and somebody fogot to do this...

Just a guess, but the only one that makes sense to me. Those in charge are certainly skittish about piracy, and theft of their content, and they probably have passed these emotions right along to those key people and major companies involved at every step along the chain. Don't forget this is the same Lucas who routinely uses fake names for the duration of an entire film shoot, and would insist his own mother sign iron-clad punitive contracts of non-disclosure.

So, I suspect it sat on someone's hard drive somewhere hidden with a file folder named "Charlotte."

For those of you who used DVD Shrink, which of the Quality Enhancements did you use, if any?

I am lazy. I like to use one program. I enable AnyDVD and then run shrink to rip and to burn. I used the super can sub folder whatever features, thinking I might salvage some quality. Doesn't matter.

I too have problems with the menus pausing for split seconds and having pixelation in the first couple chapters intermit.

Is it the AnyDVD? Is it the shrink? Should I scan with Fab or older Decryp and THEN have shrinkie do it? With or without AnyDVD? I need to know, because This is NOT the first DVD that has done this. Believe me. System resources ARE NOT A PROBLEM and all process trackings like Norton are turned off during the burning process.

Another side note. Almost a full layer of this freakin DVD is Animated Menus and Extra crap. This DVD doesn't look that great even upconverted from the original DVD. Just to let you know.

Thanks

@fishbulb - i didn't use any enhancements (have only ever had to do that on i think 2 films before - one was Sahara, don't remember the other movie); was just interested in what the quality would be like 'as was' - watched a bit of the resulting backup - i was actually very pleased myself..

I copied Star Wars III using AnyDVD and CloneDVD. The results were good until the end of the movie when the pixilation and skipping stared. This only occurred in the last 15 minutes of the film, the rest of the movie was just fine. I was using and older version of AnyDVD at the time (5411), since I had the disc 2 weeks prior to sreet date, and was wondering if that was the problem, or if it was a compression problem. I made another copy using DVD X Platinum and AnyDVD and had no problems. Since I made the copy, I have upgraded to AnyDVD 5511, but have not tried to use it on Star Wars yet.

@guyver3 - you don't need anything like AnyDVD running for any Star Wars films. did all of mine last night with just DVD Shrink on it's lonesome. However i very much doubt AnyDVD had anything to do with the skipping. what burn speed did you use and what media did you use. in fact, to give media info, try dvd identifier (free) - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id... - use it to 'identify' that disc aand paste results here so we can see what disc manufacturer you got there. after that it would be worth running a CRC check on the disc, for that you could try VSO Inspector - http://www.vso-software.fr

i had no problem doing that movie with clonedvd2 2851 and AnyDVD 5411..

try it this way to stop pixilation, use clonedvd2, rip it to your hard drive use Nero to burn at 4x or slower.
cheers

The blank media was an HP DVD with a max 8x write speed. I think the second copy I made turned out better because, I used a slower write speed (4x vs 8x).

another reason for the pixilation is that the hp 8x disks are (cmc mags)..as test out by me and others.
they are listed at the bottom of the pile,as poor media.

use this program to test your hp-media..

DVD Identifier 4.2.0
Author: Kris Schoofs
Date: 2005-10-24

DVD Identifier retrieves and interprets the pre-recorded information that is present on all DVD+R/+RW, DVD-R/-RW and DVD-RAM media. This information contains a variety of parameters such as disc manufacturing information and supported write speeds. Even though this information is usually printed on the packaging, the brand name may differ from the actual manufacturer or sometimes there might not even be any packaging information at all.

To Summarize : 'DVD Identifier' offers a reliable method of accurately identifying the disc's REAL manufacturer.

a-ha but here in UK i get all my top notch media (Verbatim Datalifeplus and Verbatim TY) for 26p a disc, sometimes even 24p a disc. bad media costs more in the short and long term :)

I just burned it last night. Used AnyDVD and clonedvd2. Matter of fact I have never ran into a problem of not being able to burn and duplicate on another DVD-R yet using those two programs. Not quite as fast as 1clickdvd but better compatibility and ran into to many snags where 1clickdvd couldnt beat the copy protection. Video vault is good but also ran into problems with it and DVD43 not being able to copy because of certain protections...go with AnyDVD and clonedvd2 and they are both idot proof very little learning curve.

I tried record now max v4.5 and record now deluxe7.3 - deluxe wouldn't burn it and max burnt it but it wouldn't play :(
I have Verbatim DL-R discs and a pioneer 109 writer.

What s/w do you guys recommmend for the job?

Okay, I answered my own question. I ripped with DVDfab (No AnyDVD running) instead of relying on Shrinks rippers. I DID, however, rely on Shrinks reauthering and compression utilities. It made all the difference in the world. So... I have narrowed it down to either AnyDVD or Shrink ripping problems causing pixelation problems.

If freakin Frasier season 6 has the same problems (and it did), I am gonna rip with fab from now on.

I use 1Click DVD Copy and Any DVD for just the movie and menu options. The compression on a Ritek DVD+R 8X was 39%. I got a great copy in about 20 minutes.

@DjRaise - i used Shrink (alone) to do Sith - movie only came out at 66% - i didn't use any deep analysis or anything..and zero pixellation...
