I have been burning my DVD's at Max speed of the media 8x & 16X depending on the brand but have noticed that people are saying you should not burn faster that 4x. I tried to switch my verson of DVD Shrink but it will not let me go lower than 6x. Also on DVD Decrypter I have not found a burn speed option. My burns have been ok so far but if I will get a more quality burn with lower speeds I would like that option. I believe I have the most current version of DVD Shrink but if anybody can help me find the slower burn speed I would be grateful.

The recommended speed for burning is 4x as almost anyone can get a good copy at 4x, but you need higher end systems to go much beyond that, and even with higher end systems you can still have problems if you burn faster than 4x. I have burned from 4-8x and now try to stick with 4x. Takes about 13 minutes going slow, and about 8 minutes going 8x. Media is rated to 16x, but i wouldn't try that on anything important. The recommendation is to burn at half the rated speed of the media. Even then, it all depends on you and your system. Let me see if i can find the speed setting on decrypter and post a pic of that.

It doesn't exactly work so easily. i assume you are using Shrink with Nero? Well if Nero will only let you burn at 6x that is probably jsut teh way it is. Like I said in my prevous post, i can't burn under 6x according to Nero, if I go on Decrypt and choose anything under 6x it'll say burn failed.
You can go in to shrink and have it do the burning with DVD Decrypter instead of Nero. The DVD Decrypter settings shown, should work. I hear you GlueEater, as i have a memorex burner in another system that wont let me burn under 6x the only options i get on it in Nero is 6x or 8x, or Maximum. The issue seems to be firmware in my case, but i just took the drive out of my main system and replaced it with an LG. My burns don't fail when using Decrypter to set it at 4x. Sometimes it can be that easy to fix. Just by having shrink do the burning instead of Nero. I like Nero, but it sure does seem to be a tempermental program.

He wanted someone to show him where the burn speed was in Decrypter, and i posted that part. I understand you have that problem also, and that your burns fail when you try the decrypter burn method in Shrink. I also have this problem still, on my older pc, but i just burn at 6x when i can't burn at anything slower. Now that this has come up, i will do my next rip on the older pc, and use DVD Shrink to burn specifying 4x as the speed and see if it is succesfull. Will post the results of this test back.

is that when decrypt is used in conjunction with shrink, or anytime you use decrypter and try to burn at <6x ? and if you use Decrypter at 6x it burns fine? Just trying to figure out if it is a problem with decrypter, Nero, or any burning program.
I burn with decrypter and shrink and do not have a problem burning at 4x. Of course I am not familiar with Nero so I cannot comment on that, but I see no reason why if you have shrink selected to burn with decrypter that you would not burn at the requested speed. I wonder what the problem is?
I did the test last night on the PC with the burner that wont let me burn less than 6x in Nero. When using shrink, where it burns with Decrypter, Decrypter burns at 4x just like it said it would. No failure to burn. Movie came out fine. You have to open up Decrypter first to check that you have a write speed of 4x selected, then you can close it and let shrink call decrypter up for the burn. This is why i was suggesting nitrox11 try this method. It eliminates Nero for burning. Just because something will not work for one person doesn't mean it wont work for anybody. Works for me. It wil probably will work for nitrox11 also. Give it a try nitrox11 and post if you have any problems.
