60% is probably the lowest I will go...although I prefer the compression to be much less, like 70% or above.

Funny thing I don't really remember. When I first saw it i was thinking of something, probably abo how bad teh quality was, but I don't remember. All I know is that when I saw it I had a thought/opinion of it. lol

Welcome to the forum. I'll go 20% w/ Shrink ( movie only) and past that I'll use DVDRebuilder. I did LOTR for the neighbor and used Shrink and he had no problems w/ it and yes the compression was approx. 45%+ if I remember correctly

For me personally, it depends on the quality of the video to begin with. I did 66% with Batman Begins, using deep analysis and max smooth, and it turned out quite good. I did The Wedding Date, however, with around 80% compression and it looks pretty awful. The original itself looks quite bad, so compressing it made it worse.

@Car.Mike

Did you do the "Fellowship of the Ring" 2 disc? I would like to try this one and put it on 1 DVD5. Would I just drag Title 1 from each disc to shrink and let her fly? Would disc 2 title 1 start at the proper spot?

Or

Would you keep them on separate discs?

@9mm

In reauthor mode you should be able to drag each title over to fit on one DVD-5.

@LOCOENG

When using decrypter to rip to the hd would you place each disc into a separate disc1 disc2 folder to better identify the main movie title for dragging into shrink? I've never done a double disc before but plan on doing the whole trilogy this weekend.

Also, thanks much for helping me on the region issue. I appreciate it.

Which program do you use for grabbing snapshots of screens? arniebear told me which program he uses, but I can't seem to locate the thread again.

Oops I forgot to ask. You gave me an indication that I could set the booktype of my LG using DVDinfopro (I think thats the name) and I have the program (free version) but cannot locate how to do it on the free program. Is this option only for the registered version? Could you give me a screenshot of the process? Sorry to trouble you.

I've not done it but I believe you should rip like you normally do, in File mode, and decrypter should automatically name those folders like LOTR disc1 and LOTR disc2. After that is done open DVD Shrink->Reauthor->DVD Browser...and look for the above named folders. Drag each title over one at a time and you should get an almost seemless copy.

I really don't know anything about the Region coding on DVD's, but what temj said just made sense to me so I thought I could clarify it for you.

As far as the proggy's for screenshots...I've never done it but I've read the thread you're referring to, and I think the prog is photoshop. Arniebear offered to teach me how to do it but I've yet to take him up on the offer...I need to catch up with him. Anyway, I think after you edit the pic in photoshop you upload it to an online image hosting site such as Imageshack.com and then you can insert the image of the offensive error using the [img*]***[/img} function.

I did? Don't remember that but if'n I did I'm sorry. I'm not the one to help you with that as I just got the balls to flash my new NEC drive with some hacked firmware yesterday. So I would be afraid to tell you one way or the other, as you can easily fry your drive with a bad flash.

The LotR I did was the 4 disc set, the main movie alone already took up 2 disc.

if you go to DVDShrink->Reauthor and drag and drop the main movie over...you wont get the menu's and stuff then right?

@GlueEater

Yeah, mine is a 4 disc set too. The main movie is on two disc's which is all that I want to backup. I haven't even looked at the other two. I hate the commentaries and other crap. Just show me the movie!

I used to try and cram as much on a disk as i could and i used to allow 80%. Now I try and keep it around 90-95% if i can't keep it to 100% (no compression).

Even the TY media is so cheap that i can afford to burn it onto two disks to keep the best quality.

It all depends what your purpose is.

If you will only watch it once, quality may not be that big of a deal, but if you want to keep it forever and maybe make copies of the copy, i would opt for zero compression, which usually means keeping the extras on a second disk, or if it is a long movie, breaking the movie itself up onto two disks (dvd5's of course is what i mean).

I rarely ever listen to teh commetary too, but I can't stand to have movies in which I leave out teh comment. even though I don't like it. It's just kind of a compulsion I have, that and reauthoring so I don't have the menu. I wonder what's up w/ this...then I remember I have OCD lol :D

Well, OCD and long term memory probs.
