yes it is..im just wondering what could be the problem. If it is the buttons, i'll just order a new reset and eject button assembly + new eject cable. but if its something else then maybe i wont trial and error to find out. im a newbie i dont know how to fix it, only know how to mod it.

It could be that your tray has gone out of alignment. Try putting your ear up to your PS2 and hit the eject button. Listen for any kind of noise like a soft click or something. If you do hear something, you can easily realign your drive tray.
Remove the top half of your PS2 and then take off the cover from the disc drive. There will be two screws on the side of the tray that you have to unscrew. You can then lift up the unscrewed side. The other side will stay secured, but will pivot.
You then need to set the gears on the drive to the closed position. If you have seen how a slide card works, it is very similar. There is a white piece of plasic that is visible when the tray is lifted. It is about 1 cm in width and runs across the front of the drive. You can slide this piece of plastic from left to right. I'm not sure, but i think if it is all the way to the left, that is the closed position. Once it is set, put the drive tray back down and screw it back in as far back as it will sit, or where you can see the front of the tray flush with the front of the PS2. Screw it down and test it out with the cover still off.
Good luck, and let us know how it worked out.

Oh i almost forgot... Don't look at the laser when you turn on your PS2 with the cover off! You'll be like, "OMG it's so pretty" one minute, and the next minute you be like, "OMG i'm blind :'("

Awe, sorry to hear that man. You could also try pressing the eject button with the tray completly removed... Maybe if you do that and jiggle the stuff around, it could jump start the gears or something. You never know.

You're playing the dvd with the lid off the drive right? This might be a dumb question, but do you have the drive magnet holding down the DVD?

Oh, i wasn't sure if you were testing it with the cover off. Yeah you can test the drive by removing the magnet from the cover of the drive. There is a white plastic piece on the inside of the cover. You can remove if and place it on the game directly to see if it spins up or not. Try this out, and if it still does not work, try cleaning you laser lense.
You'll two things, alcohol and q-tips. Pour a little alcohol in cap of the bottle and then moisten the q-tip with that. Don't put the q-tip in the bottle itself because then you'll contaminate it and you never know when you might need alcohol... anyways. Lightly clean the lense of the laser with the q-tip. You don't have to really worry about scraching it or apply too much pressure. Just use your best judgement. The lense will be a little wet from the alcohol and that's ok. It will evaporate quickly.
Test our your ps2 with the drive cover off and see if there is any difference.
