Everything I have read suggestes it's the ALI chipset in the external case. Remove the drive and install it in your computer and it should work fine. Othere things that may work are, installing a USB 2.0 card and running it off that. For some reason the onboard USB gives it fits. (this did not work for me) Don't use SPTI. Use ElbyCDIO as the interface. (have to download software) Use Firewire if supported.
Good luck and let me know if you find a solution.

Earth
I am currently using CloneDVD2 alone with AnyDVD, I also use if all fails Smart Ripper.
i rip the dvd first and place them in the VS_TS folder then I use either or Clone to burn them, I also use TY DVD's I made the switch after coasters from CMC media which is 3rd class media, TY's are the #1 rated and are cheaper then what we think is cheap like Memorex, Sony, TDK.
I also purchased 123 CopyDVD.
I have had it with the free stuff, lots of people cupport them only cause they are free and think buying is way expensive verus freebies.
Hope this helps, just hit me up if you want to further this.

Like I was saying before, it's the ALI chips, not any software.
Decrypter and DVD Shrink work great for me. Good luck, and stak away from ALI chips. :)

About Ali ... Hear This... Laptop P4M 1GB Ram Win2k Pro SP4 ... 1 port 4pin IEEE 1394A 40MB/PS(Theoreticly)Texas Ins onboard(Every Firewire enclosure has 2 ports the reason is that firewire supports serial connections)1st goes to PC and the other to 2nd device and so...i have connected the 1st port to a HDD 120GB and the 2nd port to DVD-RW DL Every thing was working Perfect. And some day i have desided to buy a PCMCIA Card with 1 6pin and 1 4pin port IEEE 1394B 80MB/PS and 2xUSB 2.0(Impressive)but the mistake was that i have boughted a card with ALI Chpiset.I have done everything that you can ever think i installed and uninstalled the drivers 1000 times i have downloaded updates - misc utilities - Aspi drivers i have done everything NOTHING!!1 same error I/O (IN/OUT) Device error Some time the card let look my disc but only in the my computer folder i coulden't get in.
I have returned the card back they gave me a new one nothing happend the same problems.I have replaceded with a Sunix IEEE1394B VIA Chipset Just Perfect
Solution...Keep Away from Ali!!

Yeah, it's the ALI alright. Best to just stay away from them.
BTW: USB is serial, PS/2 is serial, your com ports are serial, SATA is serial. A serial connection just means that the data goes to and from the device one bit at a time. What you are talking about is Daisy chaining. Daisy chaining is mostly done with serial connections, but it is also done with Parallel connections too. SCSI is a Parallel connection that can Daisy chain.

I can understand "Chaining" or something like "Chain Connection" but "Daisy"...? dosen't sounds good...

Try www.webopedia.com.
daisy chain
(n) A hardware configuration in which devices are connected one to another in a series. The SCSI interface , for example, supports a daisy chain of up to 7 devices.
serial
One by one. Serial data transfer refers to transmitting data one bit at a time. The opposite of serial is parallel, in which several bits are transmitted concurrently.
Not all daisy chained devices comunicate in serial and not all serial devices are daisy chain-able.
I'm not going to argue with you. It's not a matter of grammer. It's a matter of two totaly different things. What you said was wrong, I helped you by telling you the corect answer. That is what these fourms are all about. You are welcome.

I did't mean that.
I mean that my translation from greek to english was wrong and i told that from greek to english the closest that i could find in my head was serial cos in greek it means something like "in a row" and that the word "Daisy" sounds to me odd.
Not that you where wrong.
I told you that i didn't knew that.(The translation term in english)
I just coulden't understand why the used the word "Daisy".Thats all

Dude,
Serial comes from Latin not Greek.
Etymology: from Latin serialis
Yes you can Daisy chain Firewire. That's great. Up to 63 devices. That's even better. Let me ask you a question. Before i came along and told you that plugging equipment up one after another in a row was called 'Daisy Chaining', what did you call it? Serialing? Please do me a favior and ask someone who knows about computers and is over 30 years old what Daisy Chaining is. Or open an A+ Cert book. Either way, just relax, and be happy when you learn something new.

1st I DIDN'T SAY THAT YOU WERE WRONG!!!
2nd I told You that I DIDN'T knew that the term in english for this type of connection is "Daisy Chain".
3rd I DIDN'T say that the word serial is Greek(I told you what is MEANING in Greek)
4th If you search the net and find a really good greek to english translator you will find that the word "Row" in greek is "Σειρα"(Sera)to say "in a row" is "Στην Σειρα"(Stin Sera) or in argot "Σειριακα"(Seriaka)that you can use it for a bunch of reasons like "in a row" or "One hooked to other" or "one after other" or "sequentally".
That is why i used the word serial.(I didn't say that i was right)
""AND I DIDN'T SAY THAT YOU ARE WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!""
I JUST DON'T KNOW WHY THEY USED THE WORD "DAISY" cos in every f*cking dictionary i have searched for the word DAISY they write that means whiteflower - beautifull(argo)or marguerita(bellis perennis kind)
AND I REPEAT
""I DIDN'T SAY THAT YOU ARE WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!""
And I Thank you for this.
Something else... If you can help go to http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/255599 and answer if you have any ideas i am going to lose my mind.!!!!
