What do all these dvds that say they are inkjet printable and hub-printable actually mean? I just don't see how you can put a disc in a printer. You would still have to buy the special paper shaped like CDs dont you?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but I just am a little confused.

a printable disc is one that allowa a printer whether that be laser or inkjet to actually print an image straight on to the disc it self.

Below is an example.I have a canon pixma IP 4000, but there are better printers out there.

I wont bore you with all the details but basically it has a tray at ther front which you load your dvd disc onto.After you have selected an image , you just print straight to the top of the disc.

The stylish, space-saving PIXMA iP4000 delivers superior lab-quality photos and a host of other capabilities. Benefit from outstanding photo quality with ContrastPLUS, bringing extra depth to photos.

Features

4800x1200dpi with FINE technology & 2pl Micro-Nozzles
Unique ContrastPLUS quality
New design with dual paper trays, duplex unit & CDR/DVD printing
PictBridge-ready
Up to 25ppm mono & 17ppm colour
Efficient Single Ink system

You see my sig. right? Well, that's a genuine Yuden 8X DVD+R Silver Inkjet printable disc. The White Hub printable discs are pretty close to the small circle ring.

Honestly, I prefer the Silver Inkjet printable over the Hub because the holographic effect is awesome -- it looks nearly 99.99% professional. I don't mind getting the Hub printables in the near future though. However, if only Yuden or Verbatim has the Silver Inkjet Hub printables, then that would be super super super awesome.

Phatferd: If you live here in the USA,then you can check out the epson r-200/r-300/and r-320 stylus photo printers. They also print directly on the dvd-using inkjet printable media. The r-200 can be had for $80 at Sams Club,and anywhere from $80-$100 at staples and office depot.

I've got the r-200,and it has a special tray along with a template you slap your already burned inkjet printable dvd/cd in,dowload your picture and print! Pretty easy,and great looking backups.

The set of 6 ink cartridges are under $20

They are cheaper if more than 1 set is ordered and excellent customer service.

I've been using them for years. I'm looking at a dozen cake boxes of various media on my desk right now; +R, -R, branded, unbranded, printable, hub-printable, silver, & white. I use a lot of OptoDisc printables because they have no branding at all. My Ritek -R printables have "Ritek" branded into their hubs, so I rarely use them. Yuden silver printables have a pretty large blank hub (43mm), but it's too large for some artwork. I've only found one type of silver hub-printable, but I don't remember what brand it is now; I know it's +R, though.

I started when I bought my gf an Epson R300, but I recently got my own R200, and I only use Epson inks from WM/Sam's @ ~$60/box of 6.

It's good for printable CDs, too, and includes easy-to-use software: Epson PrintCD.

Anyone know where to get hub-printable CDs??? I have silver & white printable, but not hub.

in regards to printing directly to dvd's / cd's i'm using the software that was bundled with my Canon Pixma but i'm having an issue with the inner ring.. my dvds are full face printing but the software leaves a rather unpleasant white ring and doesn't print to the inner plastic bit.....does anyone know of some good software to do this or am i stuck with the bundled software???

@dvd-craze

My settings on the Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD+R Silver Inkjet printable disc are: 43 inner diameter, 119 outer diameter, and 0.2mm to the left on the print position. With these settings my Epson R300 prints perfectly onto the Yuden Silver Inkjet printable media.

@andmerr

I don't mind the ring gap in the middle at all, as long as it looks more professional than the White Hub printables. I usually custom made myself an image of my own anyways, especially if I don't like the original image.

Well, like I told dvd_craze, my settings for the Silver Inkjet are: 43 inner diameter, 119 outer diameter, and 0.2mm to the left on the print position. These settings works beautifully on my R300.

On the other hand, it would be triple awesome if Yuden or Verbatim (MCC003/MCC004) made the Silver Inkjet Hub printables soon.

On my pixma the outer is 118mm
inner is 17mm

works very well with those printables that dont have the plastic see though bit that your discs are showing in your image.

thegood16: Having used the original epson ink,and now on my second set of abacus ink,I can't tell a difference. The darker movies look sweet,no so sweet for the lighter ones. I do use the high quality settings for the case cover and they look near original.

I have also priced epson ink in staples/office depot/and wal-mart and they are all around $50 a set. I'll take privateabacus over epson ink any day.

I'm going to also get some of those silver ink jet printables.
alky's looks awesome!
