This Thread is for the Internet Browser for the Playstation 2 Called the EgBrowser. It will never come to the U.S. legally, so if you download it, here is some help from every one here that knows some thing about it (thats if they post anything).

The EgBrowser won't work with the Network Adapter from sony. The reason why is because it will only work with a Special USB Modem that comes with the disc when bought. Unless someone can hack the disc even more besides just haveing it translated, it looks like the disc isn't any use without a hack or the Special modem. I, my self am trying to hack the disc so it will work with Network Adapter but have had no luck so far. I don't know why Sony won't release most of the stuff they develope for japan in the U.S. They would make more money if they would do it. It would also make there console have a bigger Library of games.

Ive also been trying to find a web browser for the ps2 but there isn't any. Im wondering if I could get a network adapter from a different country off of ebay along with the disk and then get the disk to work with the swap magic disk. I wonder if that would work.

Here is a statement from
http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:dWMCUP6WQOcJ:www.planetweb.c...

"Consumers in Japan are now able to enjoy the benefits of Internet browsing and email enabled by this solution. The Japanese version of the Planetweb Web browser is published by Ergosoft and known as the "EGBROWSER" in Japan. EGBROWSER for PlayStation 2 supports multiple USB modems developed for PlayStation 2 and can be purchased as a bundled product with various USB modems. Users will be able to easily connect their modem to the USB port in their PlayStation 2 and get online within a matter of minutes. In addition, USB printer and USB keyboard are supported as options. This instant Internet connectivity brings a new level of entertainment to the gaming market."

So There might be a modem out there that will work with the browser

I had some really weird results when changing the files with the some off the NetWork Disc files. I changed the ommodem.irx file from the EgBrowser with the dev9.irx from the (US) Network Disc and was able to log onto google.com for a couple of minutes. Then Before I could do anything, it went to a black screen saying an error happened and that I needed to reboot the PS2. I tried the samething again and it wouldn't work. The system still works and I am able to play on line, I just can't get it to load all the way up to google.com, just up to the EgBrowser menues.

Does anyone know where I can get a UK network disc? If I could get it, I would be able to do the Internet hack that someone found. And I would be able to do it with out having to buy a modem since I already have th official modem from sony( I use the Cat 5 Connection since I don't use Dial Up at all).

From what I've read, EGBrowser is an updated version of what was available on the Dreamcast. The browser comes in 3 flavors: Regular, Lite, and BB (broadband)

From what i've read though, no one has really had a hard time getting any of these to work. The problem is that as off 2002, support was discontinued for EGBrowser. The only useful browser, which is the BB one, is not even fully translated.

A new browser called Central Station has surfaced since and is said to have borrowed code from the original EGBrowser. The only thing about Central Station is that it is PAL only, so it needs to be patched for US support.

Unfortunatly the Central Station website is down, so your only hope of trying it out is though ed2k networks and torrents.

I found out how to Install the EGBrowser on to a HD so HDLoader can read it. If you try to just install it normaly (using the PS2's drive to read it, it won't install and you end up getting an error). If you use FAPLink, you can install it on there and then use HDloader to run it. I also am now using MYPS2 app to load MP3's, JPEG's, and AVI files on you my HD (made a 1GB Portion of my 80GB just for MYPS2, and Simple Media Player apps).
