Guy Fawkes is an english tradition but I don't see why other countries can't celebrate it.

I've heard of it. Isn't it about the only day of the year when it is ok for a girl to ask a guy out for a date?

If I remember correctly, it was a failed attempt to overthrow the British government in the early 1600's. One of the conspiriters, Guy Fawks, was captured and hung (I think). Now that day is celebrated in England with fireworks and bonfires and such.
We don't celebrate that in the U.S. though.
Government big enough to supply everything you need is powerful enough to take everything you have.

Honestly i don't think anybody really celebrates it any more its more about the fireworks rather than celebrating a failed attempt to blow up James VI of Scotland and his merry men :) Well back to my evening of jumping at the sound of fireworks :D

Learn't about it in British History but it doesn't seem to be a popular outside of Britain. Not sure if it's even that popular there nowadays.
@ Saugmon
Regular comedian aren't you?,LOL (I am totally cracking up). If you're reading this thread and you haven't seen the Halloween thread in the Safety Valve Forum then you ought to have a look.

LOL, Guy fawkes sounds similar to sadie hawkins day!
A buddy of mine at work wants to establish a new weekly holiday called: Fu** a friend friday! He's even got it down to if you have to do an ugly gal, then the following friday you get a hot babe! No 2 dogs in a row.
How about that holiday!

So it's basically the fourth of July right? Fireworks, partys, patriotism for your country, little kids not knowing why, nor caring, it's importance in you country's history b/c as long as they get to have a party and day off from school it's a great holiday.

awh come on now, you're ruining it for everyone.if its a paid holiday from work then im for it.who says all holidays have to be sacred.
so is the nov 5th holiday celebrated because people support guy fawkes or because they dislike him?because the guy was hung before he accomplished anything.
