I usually download games off the internet and burn em as an iso image on a sony dvd-r and they all 75% of the time work fine. But my ps2 got messed like 2 days ago and i took it 4 a reapi, the dude asked me what kinda games i used so i told him pirated and dvd-r, ok he sed i had problem with my lens coil or sumthing (i dunno). He told me not to use dvd-r cuz that was what messed up my coil.He sed that dvd-r use a lot of power of da laser so if u use it very often its gonna blow up my lens and the ps2 version i have, the new lens are not availabe. Now i am locked up in my room with my ps2 with no games (cuz all of mine were dvd-r) and dun have no games to play.
Is that thing he sed about DVD-R true??
I'm no mod guy, but that sounds like a load of mularkey. Cheap DVD-R's like Imation, Staples, or Memorex can wear down your PS2 laser. Decent DVD-R's like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, TDK, Maxell, Sony, or Phillips shouldn't put any extra strain on your laser. Check here to see which version PS2 you have: http://mod-chip.com/index-cart-us.php?go=en/select_ps2_main.htm I'd get a second opinion from a mod guy in your area. What happens when you turn on your PS2? Does the disk spin and nothing happens? Or does the disk not spin at all? You're locked in your room? Do we need to call child services lol.
What i suggest you you is open up your PS2, dont worry it isnt as hard as you think, i linked a site, i think it has all the instuctions you need to open it:
http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Guides/ps2diy/ Once you open it, there are four or two screws on the DVD drive(depends on your ps2 version), remove them, you will need a smaller screw driver for this, after you have done this, remove the cover and you will reveal the laser and all the other parts in the Drive, look at the laser and check if it looks a creamy colour, if it does most likely it is burnt, but plug you ps2 up while its open and turn it on, check to so if the laser fires up, if it does it is fine, it might need some tweaking, or just clean it using a q-tip, if it doesnt light, you will have to replace the laser.
