Umm, Maybe a dumb question, but is there an advantage or disadvantage when you have the option of ripping and burning using ISO image file over ripping and burning VOB files?
Just curious, I was reading the guide for dvd decrypter and the guide refers to only ripping iso and burning iso image. But there is also an option to rip in file mode, but doesn't talk about it.
When you rip in ISO read mode, the guide is assuming that you are working with a DVD-5. Then you can turn right around after the rip and burn in ISO write mode. Note use this method only if working with a DVD-5.
The File mode created a Video_TS folder for using with DVD Shrink. This folder contains all of your VOB files. You use this method when working with a DVD-9.
Read the DVD-9 guide in my sig, and it should all fall into place.
As for the difference, the end result is the same.
O.K., thank you. I think I understand what your saying.I'm pretty new at this, and only have burned about 10 movies. I was using DVD Decrypter and ripping in file mode to my hard drive., then i was using my Nero prg to select 'vob' files and burning to disk, and this has worked flawlessly, perfect evertime. So i guess thats why I was asking why the guides show only ripping/burning in iso mode.
Yes all the dvd's were DVD-5.

If working with a DVD-5, you don't have to use Nero. Just do as suggested above. Iso->read/Iso->write. But if you've found a method that works for you, that is all that matters.
Try DVD Shrink...it is available for a free DL on this site. It provides more compression and error correction options than Nero.

The guides were showing you that because the programs are free. I always used to use DVDDecrypter to burn the movie and I have Nero Ultra 6. Now I use Imgburn ( same author as DVDDecrypter) to do the burns. If I do a Dual Layer Movie I use DVDDecrypter because it picks up the layer break better than any other program out there.
You can use either Nero or DVDDecryoter-Imgburn to do the burning of the DVD. As far as DVDDecrypter guide telling you to rip in .iso mode I beg to differ. Rip it in file mode to HD and then have Shrink make the .iso for you to burn automatically in DVDDecrypter

Exactly my process as well. This process works incredibly well, and is very easy to do. Even if you reauthor like I do for almost every dvd I back up, all you have to do is drag the main title over in shrink, deselect the unwanted audio files and click backup.
