Hi everyone!

I'm new here with my first post.

I have a PS2 about 2 years old with a modchip that I soldered in myself. I haven't had any problems using it until today when I tried Star Wars Battlefront 2. It boots past the PlayStation logo and then pauses for a few seconds (10-15 secs) and then displays a message to "Please insert PlayStation or PlayStation 2 format disk."

Any ideas on what's happening. It reacts the same way with the original and the copy disk for Star Wars Battlefront 2 only.

Thanks

What modchip do you have?

yes like Tokijin asked....what chip are you using?

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I know that different chips may require you to boot certain games and disc types different ways.

For example, having to press and hold the power button for a certain time to boot.

I'm not sure though if this applies to you, it just came across my mind as this happened to me when I first got my chip and I didn't know how to use it.

Computer Specs:
AMD Athlon64 3700+ (oc'ed to 2.5Ghz)
2gb OCZ premier RAM
ASUS A8R-MVP motherboard
two ATi X1600 Pro 512mb each running in Crossfire
Thermaltake Silent Purepower 500W PSU
LG DVD +/-RW drive 4120
ACER 19" LCD 1916B
On-Board 5.1 w/ Logitech X530 speaker system

I don't remember the modchip (maybe an Apple V7) but this is the normal bootup operation for it.

1. Soft power off PS2 by holding the reset button.
2. Turn on PS2 by using the eject button.
3. Insert disk and when closed hit reset button.

This method has been working fine for two years now.

The odd thing is, it won't even play the original DVD of Battlefront 2.
Every other disk (copied or not) plays fine.

I'm just wondering if they are able to identified that there is a modchip installed and aborting the program if there is?

The Model No. for my PS2 is SCPH 39001.

Thanks

Yeah cheap modchips can be a real pain in the arse. It doesn't look like there's any way to disable it according to the instructions. Official site: http://www.apple-chip.com/main.html It worked for awhile, so I doubt you butchered the mod. Check your wires and make sure they're all connected. You could always try backing up Star Wars Battlefront 2, and see if that helps. Personally this is why I don't recommend cheap chips. You could always switch it out for a Duo2SE. It's on that link I posted earlier. It's low budget and high functionality.

Maybe I'm not making myself clear. The modchip still works perfect on everything else. This (Star Wars Battlefront 2) disk is the first problem I had. What's weird is that it won't even allow the original (un-copied) disk of Star Wars work.

Well that's why I mentioned disabling the chip. If you could disable the chip you could determine if that made a difference. Most newer chips have the ability to be disabled with the press of a button. Since it won't play the original, try making a backup of SB2, and see if it boots that. Sounds goofy, but so does this whole problem.

Alright, my bad. Instead of pointing that out, why not try to help him? Short answer: several people have had problems with this game. Backing it up has caused issues. Now as far as it not booting the original, that's strange. Even though you haven't had problems with anything else, the apple chip is the only likely culprit. Cheap modchips will cause problems like this and since there's no way to disable it, there's no way to know for sure.

They must be doing something to check for the presents of a modchip.
My question is, if they are able to do this, why is not every games designer doing the same thing?

If I decided to get a Matrix Infinity modchip, would most of the wires for the Apple modchip on the mother board remain in place, so as to minimize the rewire process?

Thanks

No idea. I paid the pros at teammodders.com to install a Matrix Infinity in my v.4 PS2. As far as which wires would remain intact, and what would need desoldered and resoldered, I have no idea. I'll PM you the email address of a guy who would know.
