hiya,

just about to buy some more DVD-r's but abit overwhelmed by the choice. always been a verbatim girl, but opting for a cheaper type this time.

i know the underside of writable dvd's can be different colours like purple, green or blue etc. just wondering if it actually matter or makes a difference which colour it is???

I take it you are talking about the top/writable with sharpie side of disc being different colors. As long as they are the quality manufacturers like fuji or maxell,look for the made in japan spindles/jewel case packs for the higher quality stuff. These are excellent discs.Other than those 2 brand names,i'd be cautious of them.

Now on the bottom/dye side of disc: The rw's will be grayish/silver and the r's will be a bluish/purple color. There'll be a color change on the outer and inner parts where the actual burn occurred.

The colored discs I stay away from are sony 4x. Some of these are made in austria,UGGH!

Verbatims are sweet. I'm a whatever quality media is on sale guy! This week it was 16x verbatim data life plus at office depot. Staples have some great sales on the fuji colored 30 packs.Last sale they were 30 cents each,and the spindles made in japan were ty's!
