Hi bender255, welcome to AD can you advise us what size the file is as it may be compressed using DVDShrink which is a free prog.

You can do that (what gwendolin said), which is what I would recommend, but there are many other options. For example, you can buy a dual layer disc for about $1.50 (US) that way you won't have to compress at all. When you compress you will lose quality but it's hardly noticable.

But to adress your ? you can also use shrink to reauthor the disc and choose what part you want to put on each disc. However you should keep in mind that doing so you will lose the menu. I think if you use CloneDVD you can keep the menu, but Clone is no free.

And DVD Shrink is available for download here at AD.

I have about 4 films all downloaded ranging from 699mb to 996mb they mostly seem to be XviD files i have dvdshrink clone dvd etc but they seem to be mainly for original dvd backups,I only have the one file that has no special dvd features etc, maybe there is a file splitter program i can use and then i can burn onto two separate discs but its not my preferred option,I'm not sure if i can buy the discs in Australia that GlueEater refers to,that would be simplest solution I guess

US, do you know why it's so expensive? Can't you go online somewhere? If you have a good friend from the States or UK then you can jsut have it delivered to there adress and they could send it to you...but that seems like ALOT of work just for some DLs.

All of the above tutorials seem to be for an original dvd,my problem being that i have the movie file on my hard drive but in AVI form,I have been able to burn most 700mb movies onto blanks but having problems with a few even though sizes seem to be same as other movies I already burned, are there any good file splitting programs where I can prehaps cut the AVI in half and use 2 blanks?

what you actually want....its the easiest thing to use....

NeroVision Express also made by Nero.

this tool lets you re-encode all those divx/xvid and pretty much any other video format to a dvd-5 (also dvd-9 for those that have them). You can set the aspect ratio, the EXACT quality you want or can fit, add Dolby Digital, create your own chapters, even create and add your own menus!!! Its the easiest 1 click program ive ever used. It is not a free program, but if you can say "I downloaded the movie Batman Begins" and "I have about 4 films all downloaded", you might do the same with nerovision express ;)

PS: be very cautious in your references to "downloaded" material...

@deepOr, NeroVisionExpress3 is the prog I use exclusively, its a great prog, I referred bender255 to recode because it can be downloaded for free...NVE3 has to be purchased with Nero bundle, I think Recode2 will do it nicely
What do you mean by your reference re downloaded material?
