hi im making my dvd backups and im burning them on memorex media, i think i have the newest dvds from memorex they can be burned at 16x.
i keep them away from heat, humidity, dust and they are inside a big folder i have in a cool place.....my memorex media comes on a purple envelope.....does anyone knows if i can have my backups for a long time if i take care of them....or will it make any difference on my media life span if i burned them at 16x or at 4x....does speed matters on the life span....? please help me

Christian

Sorry to say but you've bought some of the worst media out there. You'd be better served by Verbatim. Or Made in Japan packages of Fuji, Maxell, or Sony.

see here for a good example of why not to buy Memorex - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/232406 - some of their discs are ok but you gotta know whichj ones to get. that is nigh on impossible to do as you can't usually tell one pack of Memorex from another.. read that link as it's better explained in there

you know what i really think that if i really take care of my dvd+r
they are gonna last a long time......why? beacuse i have generic dvd+r a lot more cheaper than memorex and i have like 1 year in a
half with them and i have recorded like 20 dvd backups on them and they still work perfectly....so thats why i think that it all depends on how you store your dvd media and how you take care of them. (You know no heat,no dust,no light,no humidity)that obiusly reduces the life span of your media....it doesnt matter how good they are....they will be affected.....i have memorex for like 8 months and they are perfectly fine...i still watch my movies, im still making backups from them and everything works perfect

you may have some of the better ones so far then, good luck, but next time you buy some it'll be a lottery and you might get stung with some of the bad ones... good luck
