I Have recently got a flip lid for my brand new slimline (V12) due to the magic keys not working (Stupid Goddamn Metal BAR!) installed it okay but with some games its really slow and it makes that awful noise as if its playing a cd game. I'm wondering whether this is to do with a small piece of metal with a hole in the middle that fell out while i had my ps2 open. I have not put it back in and it works fine but i got to thinking that surely it'd be there for a reason but could not find anywhere to put it.Could anyone help me because i'm worried about my ps2 i think its gonna explode any minute WHERE DOES IT GO? WHAT IS IT FOR? ordinarily i wouldn't not play it until i had found an answer but i've just got resi Evil 4 and i have to play it that games pure genious!
Hi
The piece of metal is for the vertical stand to screw into. If you look at the side of the ps2 there is a mall hole, the piece of meat fits in behind it. No it is not important to the overall running of you ps2. Some ps2 cd based games make awful noises when playing Crash the Wrath of Cortex is one ive come across, is the ps2 playing dvd based games with out any strange noises?

Thanx for the info berty 642 and yeah its making really strange noises while playin pro evo 5 most other games work fine like resi evil 4 which i still cannot stop playing, i've heard that the v12's have a bad laser problem and im getting pretty worried bout that but seen as i have the newer version of the v12 (the one with the added metal bar to stop magic keys fitting like the silvers have) does that mean the lasers not as bad or am i just dreaming (PROBABLY). Anyways thanx berty642 you've put my mind at rest and no more ps2 dying nightmares for me!
Hi
The laser problem was happening more with slimlines that were chipped rather than ones running swap magic. Check that the flip top lid is fitted correctly, if its only a few games causing the noise i assume it is, another thing to check is you are using good media, as the laser has to work harder with cheap discs.
