Newbie here (at least to burning DVD's). I've read your forums for about a week now & it's full of great info. I am using a Sony DRX-720UL-T external DVD writer. My V1 PS2(SCHP-30001) has a modchip that I purchased off modchip.com in 2001 (don't remember the model #)& I have Gameshark 2.

I've burned about 20 backups of my CD games dating back to '01, using straight burns as well as patches, with hardly any problems. Since I just got the DVD writer I was interested in burning backups of all my PS2 DVD's. I downloaded DVD Decryptor at the advice of this forum, as well as got some Verbatim 16X DVD-R based on the Version of PS2 I have. I used ISO-Read & ISO Write, writing the ISO file it creates at 1X speed, per the recommendations of this forum, and can't get the game to boot.

The process for my modchip is to insert the Gameshark card & CD, turn the unit off; hold the power button for 3-4 seconds until the screen appears; then start the game without codes; insert the copied game & press x. Usually, the copied game boots at this point. However, in this case the gameshark screen freezes & doesn't go away. I tried one of my CD backups afterwards to see if it was a problem with the gameshark software, but it booted just fine.

Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong? The game I was trying was Grand Theft Auto-Vice City(I chose this older version because I thought it would be easier)

your modchip is probably too old to play dvd backups.

I used to have this type of mod chip as well before I had it upgraded. From what I remember, when booting with Gameshark, I had to use a an original game prior to loading up the backup. The real game had to have a larger TOC than the backup, and only then would it work.. You process seems okay though, other than that I don't know.

Sly,

wThanks for your input. With my current setup, would you recommend going with Swap Magic, another modchip, or what? That mod was a pain in the a** to install & I don't know if I want to go through that again. Any advice is appreciated.

Yeah, the easiest way would be buying the swap magic discs and a fliptop (or make a slide card).
