Let me apologise in advance if my question(s) seem rather elementary. I am totally new to PS2 mod and am curious about a few things.

1) When using an HD Loader, is a modchip absolutely necessary?

2) I was thnking about purchasing DMS4 E.Z.I. Pro, but would rather not tamper with my console if there was another alternative.

3) Why would some people want both Mod chip and HD loader?

Thank you all in advance.

1. The modchip will allow you to play back ups and originals.
2. Without the modchip, HD loader (original) will ONLY allow you to copy ORIGINAL games to HD. NOT back ups.
3. With the modchip installed, you can:
3a. Play back ups and originals,
3b. Play downloaded HD loader software from the net.

I had the same thoughts as yours, and decided to order a Modbo 2.0 mod chip since it gives me more flexibilities for the same cost. I installed the mod chip this weekend myself. It was not easy on SMT. Now I am able to copy games to my HD using PS2 adapter and a backup copy of HD loader.
Mobo chip also lets me play back ups. All tested. I am good to go.

Great. Your assistance is very valuable. I appreciate your time and patience. Believe it or not, I purchased both DMS3 (solder), and the DMS4 E.Z.I. Pro (solderless) approx. 1 year ago. Neither have ever been installed. Guess, I haven't worked up the courage to attempt the install yet.

If i screw up the install, I am certain to have a mutiny on my hands. My three children, are liable to pack their bags and go. Hold on, that could be a good thing!

Just kidding.

Thanks again. Have a good one.

Peter
