my playstation 2 will read the games and automaticly go onto the brower screen without me touching the controler. Then when i press X on the ps2 disk it wont play them and it will go backonto that same brower screen with the disk there. I try it again and again but it will not play the game. Do u know any ways of helping me fix it.
This will be a great help if u could take the time to read this and get back to me .thank you

A new laser will cost a minimum of $50, probably more.

Either do that or clean your laser with a Q tip and rubbing alcohol. Definitltely do try one of those two things before dropping $50 on a new laser. The lens cleaner could scratch your lens. I recommend the Q-tip method, here's a guide for the "fat" Ps2: Fat PS2 v.1-11: http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Guides/ps2diy/

Yeah you can pick up a nice premodded one from one of these sites. If you get a premod go with a DMS 4 or Matrix Infinity chip: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/251223

If i were you i would really try cleaning the lens first... Most of the time, that is the problem. The way lenses burn out is if you are the kind of person that leaves you PS2 running 24/7 and you like to watch a lot of DVDs...

The culprit for 9 out of 10 bad PS2s that i've worked on has been a dirty laser, no joke. I would go with what Tokijin recomended with the alcohol and q-tip method. I don't trust those lense cleaner cds worth beans. I've seen what those can do to a car stereo and it's not pretty.

There are some very nice guides available on the forums. Give it a search, you won't come out empty handed.
