when burning d/l games for PS2 does it matter if i use a DVD-RW or DVD-R?

I take it you mean downloaded?
It depends on what you use to boot the games..if it's a modchip then I think it doesn't matter because most recent modchips will support DVD-RW, if it's swap magic that you use to boot then use DVD-R as I'm pretty sure that it won't boot DVD-RW discs.

DVD+RW's/-RW's are harsh on the PS2 laser, if they even work, avoid them. Use good DVD-R's like Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Ritek, Maxell, TDK, Sony, or Phillips.
